Eddie Brock is in need of couples counseling in the latest VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE trailer

Since it’s Spider-Man Week, fans are eagerly anticipating (or at least hoping for) the release of the first Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer. While it may not be the trailer fans wanted, Sony did release the second Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer.

Tom Hardy reprises his role as the titular Lethal Protector and is joined by Woody Harrelson who was first teased in the post-credits scene in the first Venom film as serial killer Cletus Kasady (better known as the host of the Carnage symbiote).

In the director’s chair this time around is Andy Serkis, who replaces the director of the first film, Ruben Fleischer, since he was busy working on Zombieland: Double Tap to return to helm the sequel. While Serkis is perhaps best known for his acclaimed motion-capture performances, he’s no stranger to being behind the camera having directed the Netflix Mowgli Book movie, as well as acting as a second unit director with Peter Jackson on the Hobbit films.

The new trailer also showcases more of actress Naomie Harris as the villainous Shriek with her sonic manipulation powers on full display. As diehard comic fans know, Shriek made her first appearance in the page in 1993’s Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage. In that story, Cletus Kasady was able to take advantage of a mutation he had undergone during exposure to a symbiote in order to escape from prison by spontaneously generating a copy of the alien and once again transforming into Carnage. In addition to freeing himself from incarceration, he also rescued Shriek, and together the pair gathered more allies to battle against Spider-Man.

Between the movie and the upcoming new Marvel comic relaunch from writers Al Ewing and Ram V and artist Bryan Hitch, there’s no better time to be a Venom fan right now.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage arrives in theaters on September 24, 2021.
