Some of the most well-known anime are praised for having an engaging story, fun action scenes, or outstanding humor. Although these elements are important, the most crucial element of any anime is the animation itself. Good animation is the difference between someone staying to watch the show, and someone running to the manga and never looking back.
However, even the best anime have experienced dips in quality or contain small mistakes in their animation. Most animation errors are funny, and even after the series is completed, these errors, no matter how big or small, tend to be unforgettable to fans.
10 XXXHolic: The Characters Have Ridiculously Long Legs
CLAMP is known for drawing its characters with longer limbs, giving them a unique and memorable style. Unfortunately, XXXHolic‘s anime takes the characters and stretches their bodies to ridiculous lengths. The characters are consistently drawn with legs that are so long and thin that they resemble stilts, and their heads are also tiny. They look completely out of place, especially when compared to the nicely painted backgrounds.
9 Blazblue Alter Memory: Yuuki Terumi’s Face Is Appalling
If there is one thing that did not live up to the expectations of Blazblue fans aside from the recently released gacha game, it’s the anime. Anime that try to compress a longer story into fewer episodes don’t typically perform well, leaving it with a story that doesn’t feel entirely fleshed out.
While fans might’ve been disappointed by the rushed pacing, the animation quality didn’t help much either. In fact, the creators went back for the Blu-ray version and reanimated certain scenes with the main villain, Yuuki Terumi, because his animations were not up to standard.
8 Seven Deadly Sins: Meliodas Has Strange Proportions
Although the first two seasons of the anime were animated well by A-1 Pictures, the animation went into the hands of Studio DEEN for the third season. Fans quickly noticed that the quality of the animation was not the same, and when discussing the funniest animation errors, the scene in which Meliodas is laying in bed is always brought up. Not only are his proportions and expression far from normal, but his webbed feet are also incredibly distracting.
7 Naruto: Pain’s Face Was Warped During An Intense Battle
Although the animation was purposefully made this way, fans were confused as to why the fight animation in this episode of Naruto was especially distorted. Fans had no way of taking it seriously when Pain was hammered into the ground like a nail.
This is an extreme yet hilarious shift from the terrifying Pain who caused the mass destruction of Konoha. To top it all off, his expression is infamous for looking as painful as Pain himself describes.
6 Pokémon: The Pokérap Makes A Few Mistakes
The Pokérap played in the original Pokémon anime still holds up to this day as a catchy way to introduce the first generation of Pokémon. However, there were a few mistakes made in the corresponding images that some people may have missed, due to the fast-paced nature of the song. When Poliwrath’s name is mentioned, an image of Poliwag appears instead. This type of mistake is repeated with Geodude representing Graveler. Lastly, Lickitung’s name is misspelled as “Likitung.”
5 One Piece: There Are Suddenly Two Zoros
Foxy, in his attempt to fool the Straw Hats, donned a female disguise, which only Luffy fell for. Luffy, so convinced by the disguise, turned his back to the captain. Zoro had no choice but to rush in and protect Luffy from an attack from behind.
However, there are clearly two Zoros in this scene. The second one, standing at the hole in the wall, disappears only after the characters humorously fall to the ground, when Luffy continues to fail to recognize the villain.
4 Spice And Wolf: The Horse Runs In The Most Hilarious Way
No still image of this scene can do the animation justice. Fans regard this 3 seconds of animation as one of the funniest scenes in the anime, although it was never intended to be this way. It begins with a close-up shot of the horse’s legs as it gallops, and it doesn’t appear so bad. Unfortunately, it’s much more chaotic when the horse is viewed from afar, wildly jerking its head up and down while the rider sits atop it like a stone statue.
3 Go-Toubun No Hanayome: The Towel Magically Changes Color
The third episode of The Quintessential Quintuplets has an animation error that sticks out like a sore thumb. Fuutarou Uesugi enters the room while Nino Nanako is drying her hair. The soft colors and the sparkle effects make the scene pretty, but fans were caught off guard when her towel went from white, to blue, back to white again. It’s a transition that is impossible to miss, making fans wonder how this slipped past the animators.
2 Sailor Moon: Usagi’s Hair Vanishes
Episode 9 of Sailor Moon is a comedic episode in which everyone who buys a cursed clock starts to rush as if their lives depend on it. Usagi Tsukino gets on a bus and pressures the bus driver to hurry it up. Deciding that his lane is too backed up, he goes to the wrong side of the road, swerving to avoid oncoming traffic. Naturally horrified, the passengers demand for him to stop, and Usagi panics so much that her pigtails briefly disappear.
1 Dragon Ball Z: Vegeta Had Red Hair
When Vegeta was first introduced, he had reddish brown hair and orange and green armor. When compared to his present-day appearance, it is about as jarring as Seto Kaiba’s appearance back in Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0. The Toei Animation didn’t know the exact colors of his hair and armor, but they would later fix this error when Vegeta arrived on Earth. This error doesn’t appear in Dragon Ball Z Kai, although Nappa’s armor wasn’t fixed.
