Margot Robbie Reveals What Happened to the Rat Jared Leto Gave Her

Margot Robbie reveals the fate of the pet rat costar Jared Leto gave her on the set of 2017’s Suicide Squad and how it prepared her for the sequel.

The Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie revealed that the rat she was given by co-star Jared Leto during 2017’s Suicide Squad became a problem for several people’s landlords.

Robbie, who is set to reprise her role as Harley Quinn, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live with her The Suicide Squad co-star John Cena, in full costume as Peacemaker, and director James Gunn. Robbie told the story after guest host Anthony Anderson asked exactly how many rats will appear in The Suicide Squad. The answer, Gunn confirmed, was a lot. “I had a pet rat when we did the first movie,” she said. “So this time around I was like, ‘Oh, cool.'”

Guest host Anthony Anderson showed them a photo of said rat drinking from a beer bottle. Robbie said, “His name is Rat Rat, and when we shot Suicide Squad — not, not The Suicide Squad, but Suicide Squad — Mr. J [Leto] gave me a rat and he became a beloved pet.”

Robbie continued, “We called him Rat Rat. He liked beer and bath time. And then the landlord of the place I was renting found I had a rat and said Rat Rat had to go. And so then Jai Courtney, who plays Captain Boomerang, he said, ‘I’ll take Rat Rat,’ and then his landlord wasn’t cool with that either, and so then one of the costumers on the job took Rat Rat, and then she had to give Rat Rat away, and Rat Rat, she gave it to Guillermo Del Toro’s daughters apparently. So in the end, Rat Rat is a bit of a starfucker, really.”

Gunn went on to confirm the sheer number of rats that will appear in The Suicide Squad, including the film’s two major rat actors by the name of Jaws and Chris P. Ratt, who both portray Sebastian the Rat in the movie, along with about 300,000 CGI rats to accompany them. Sebastian is the pet of Cleo Cazo, aka. Ratcatcher 2.

It was rumored that Leto, who played The Joker in Suicide Squad had given Robbie a dead rat as one of several pranks he pulled on his costars in an attempt to get into character. Leto, however, denied giving Robbie a dead rat; instead, her story confirms the rat was very much alive.
