8 Things You Need To Know About Illumi Zoldyck

[ad_1]

Illumi Zoldyck is a powerful character in Hunter X Hunter, serving as a primary and secondary antagonist throughout the series. As a member of the Zoldyck family, Illumi is both gifted and sadistic and, despite his limited screentime, has developed into a vital character and wonderful addition to an already impressive cast.

But there’s still more to learn about the master assassin, and there are some things fans may have already forgotten. From his Nen type to his curious relationship with Hisoka, there are some bits of information that all fans need to know.

8 Illumi Joined The Phantom Troupe As Uvogin’s Replacement

Following the death of Uvogin, the Phantom Troupe needed an effective replacement who could fill the powerful enhancer’s boots. Uvogin was a frontline fighter and, although an exact replacement wasn’t necessary, the Troupe desired someone who could add to their offensive arsenal. Hisoka asked Illumi if he could join the Troupe, to which Illumi agreed. The Zoldyck assassin was a no-brainer for the Phantom Troupe, and he easily ranks as one of the strongest Troupe members. Logically, as Hisoka’s rival, he is second only to Chrollo in strength.

7 He Is An Incredibly Powerful Manipulator

Illumi is a manipulator and an incredibly powerful one at that. His Nen category fits the Zoldyck pattern: those with dark hair are manipulators and those with white hair are transmuters. And just like all Zoldycks, Illumi is a prodigious talent. There isn’t much information on Illumi’s childhood, but he learned Nen at some point during his younger days. Since then he has gone on to only enhance the Zoldyck reputation. He effortlessly passed the Hunter Exam, is a member of the Phantom Troupe, and is considered a worthy opponent by Hisoka Morrow.

6 He Attempted To Control Killua With A Nen Needle

Illumi’s twisted love for his younger brother is a primary motivation for many of his actions. As assassins, the Zoldycks are extremely cautious and only strike when victory is guaranteed. This attitude is obviously beneficial in their line of work, but it can prove detrimental elsewhere, such as Killua’s desire to become a successful Hunter.

To counteract Killua’s perceived rebellion, Illumi implants a Nen needle into his brain that has an almost hypnotic effect. It convinces Killua to run away from any victory that isn’t assured, hindering his growth and free will in the process.

5 His Goal Is To One Day Control Alluka

Illumi desires power above all else. This was his primary motivation for controlling Killua, who is projected to become the strongest Zoldyck in history. But Alluka Zoldyck possesses limitless power, and Illumi’s insatiable appetite won’t let him rest. Possessed by the Dark Continent entity known as Nanika, Alluka can grant any wish but with proportional consequences. There are certain rules a wish-user has to follow, but Killua can seemingly bypass these due to his close relationship with Alluka. If Illumi can control Killua, he can control Alluka, and then no one can stop him. But his final goal remains a mystery.

4 According To Hisoka, He Is Stronger Than Some Zodiacs

Hisoka’s insatiable desire to fight the strongest of opponents has resulted in the development of his own power system. The Nen-master has incredible natural intuition, able to roughly gauge someone’s power level just by looking at them. It’s hard to determine just how accurate this is, but Hisoka’s lifelong pursuit of worthy opponents has likely finetuned his assessments. For example, He easily notices Gon and Killua’s limitless potential. During the Chairman Election arc, Hisoka was excited by the presence of someone he rated as a 95, which turned out to be Illumi in disguise. It should be noted that Illumi was ranked higher than most present Zodiacs.

3 Illumi Uses Three Types Of Needles To Manipulate

Illumi’s signature ability involves using needles to control others. However, it’s a little more complex than that. His most used needle has a round head and silver shaft; used to change other peoples appearances and his own.

They can also be used to control corpses. The second type allows Illumi to brainwash someone once the needle is implanted in their head, and these take the appearance of a gold sewing needle. The third type appears longer than the rest and turns his target into a ‘needle person,’ who Illumi can then freely control.

2 His Body Is Superhuman And Resistant To Most Things

From a young age, the Zoldycks are put through extensive training in order to prepare them for the life of an assassin. This includes using torturous methods to build resistance to poison and electricity. They also display inhuman levels of pain tolerance, with Killua effortlessly dislocating joints to aid him in battle. Illumi is no different and he has displayed some impressive physical feats. During the Hunter Exam, Illumi informed Hisoka that he will be sleeping for five days, suggesting a highly impressive control of his body. He was also unaware that Gon had broken his arm at the end of the Exam arc.

1 He Has A Contract With Hisoka To Kill Him

Following his defeat to Chrollo, Hisoka returned from the dead with a thirst for vengeance. He went on to kill multiple members of the Phantom Troupe and engage in a cat-and-mouse game with the remaining Spiders, with each party looking to kill the other. As a natural thrill seeker, Hisoka requested Illumi join the troupe and attempts to kill him. Although typically allies, Illumi and Hisoka are both aware their partnership would one day end with one of them dead, so Hisoka thought he may as well make it interesting.
