Although most fans are aware of these hero’s main powers, they also have some abilities that might be obscure to many readers.
The Marvel universe has existed in one form or another since the Golden Age of Comics, and in that time, it has become home to some of the most famous superheroes of all time. From street-level vigilantes like the Heroes for Hire to cosmic defenders like the Guardians of the Galaxy, these champions of righteousness have possessed all sorts of incredible abilities.
While mainstream audiences are sure to be familiar with iconic superpowers like slinging webs and healing rapidly, not every amazing ability has become so famous. Even the most beloved characters in Marvel’s catalog have some secret strengths you probably don’t remember.
8 Spider-Man Has Some Strange Extra Abilities
Spider-Man’s fame transcends the world of comics. Very few superheroes are as well-known or well-loved as Peter Parker, the heroic underdog who protects New York City with one of the most unorthodox and iconic power sets in fiction. It might be hard to believe then, that even Spidey has a few forgotten powers. How about his stint with organic webbing? Or his ability to actually communicate with spiders? Peter can even use the infamous Mark of Kaine, though it’s only happened on the rarest of occasions.
7 Daredevil’s Senses Are More Extreme Than You Remember
Matt Murdock’s career as the brooding vigilante Daredevil has been defined more by his willpower than any special abilities. On paper, this street-level hero has a pretty simple list of powers. The incident that blinded him also increased his senses tenfold.
While this usually comes out in fairly unsurprising ways, like listening to heartbeats and detecting nearby people, Daredevil’s enhanced senses have been used quite creatively before. His taste buds are powerful enough to single out individual ingredients, he can pick up on the faintest of scents, and he’s even been shown to be a master tracker.
6 Mr. Fantastic Can Stretch Into New Forms
Mr. Fantastic is a superhero with a very unified set of abilities. When you’re not talking about Reed Richards’ intellect, you’re talking about his incredible elasticity. Reed has used his ability to stretch in a variety of ways over the years, both for movement and combat. Some of these applications are truly outlandish, however. Mr. Fantastic’s elasticity allows him a sort of limited shapeshifting, letting him approximate the appearance and abilities of others to some extent. Once, he took on the size of fellow Fantastic Four member Ben Grimm, allowing him to catch Onslaught off-guard with a super strong blow.
5 Thor’s Power Is Unbelievable
It makes sense that Thor should have a truly outrageous list of powers. He is, after all, an Asgardian worthy of the title “God of Thunder.” That said, some of these superpowers are stranger and more obscure than others. For example, Thor can go for years without eating or sleeping, which is surprising when you think of how human he looks and acts. Thor’s breath is even strong enough to create winds that would rival those conjured up by Storm. Powers like this make the son of Odin even more intimidating than he appears.
4 Hulk Can Survive Anything
Hulk gives any hero a run for their money where strength is concerned. Doctor Bruce Banner’s encounter with gamma radiation transformed him forever, giving him a list of abilities that seems to constantly be expanding. Hulk has the ability to sustain more than just brute force attacks. This includes withstanding extreme temperatures, pressure, and even nuclear radiation. Not only that, but Hulk can also breathe underwater and in space. It seems that there truly are no limits to what the Hulk can survive.
3 Wolverine Isn’t Just About Claws And Healing
Wolverine is the best at what he does, in no small part thanks to his powerful mutation. When one thinks about this iconic member of the X-Men, his claws and healing factor are probably what come to mind. However, Logan’s picked up some strange secondary abilities over the years that don’t really fit in with his other powers.
For example, this resilience has apparently resulted in him being immune to telepathy. Even more bizarre, dating back to some of his earliest appearances, he was even able to sense the emotions of animals and communicate with them in some sense.
2 Captain Marvel Harnesses The Cosmos
Although Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel is a relatively new idea within the world of comics, this incredibly powerful heroine has quickly become one of the universe’s most famous female characters. However, much of her history remains obscure for many readers, including some of her more unique powers. Back when she was Ms. Marvel, she had a limited form of precognition. Like Wolverine, she ages incredibly slowly. Strangest of all, Carol was able to tap into the power of white holes as Binary. You wouldn’t expect theoretical physics to show up in a comic book, but Carol has always been full of surprises.
1 Ms. Marvel Is A Shapeshifter
Even characters with a much shorter history can have some surprising powers up their sleeve. Enter Kamala Khan, the newest superhero to hold the title of Ms. Marvel. Kamala has quickly become a fan favorite with her own iconic abilities. Ms. Marvel’s capability to stretch and change her size is well-known, but the fact that she can fully alter her appearance definitely isn’t. Not only can she alter her clothing on the fly, Kamala can even shapeshift to resemble objects. It’s an odd hidden power for a delightfully quirky young heroine.
