Make your Assassin’s Creed Valhalla experience more streamlined and aesthetically pleasing with the five best mods out there.
When the Assassin’s Creed franchise received harsh criticism after the launch of its eighth installment in 2014, Ubisoft vowed to improve on the quality of subsequent titles. The company kept its word and rebooted the series, prolonging its lifespan against all odds. The twelfth installment, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, sold over 1.7 million copies at launch, becoming one of the most popular entries in the Assassin’s Creed universe and Ubisoft’s second best-selling title to this day.
Like its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla features a sizable map of approximately 140 square kilometers of landmass across all five areas, which in turn equals long gameplay hours and different modes of exploration. While the game offers a fair amount of customization and allows the players to change the protagonist’s physical appearance and gender or decorate their settlement and longship(s), some mods can take the overall experience to the next level. Although Valhalla‘s game engine is far from perfect, the following five mods make up for its shortcomings and expand on some of the existing customization points.
Eivor Customizer
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla successfully steps up to the challenge of addressing gameplay immersion through character personalization, which is deemed crucial for any modern RPG title. However, some players may find the character customization options lacking, or perhaps even somewhat restrictive.
Eivor Customizer is a mod that amplifies customization experience by increasing the selection of the protagonist’s appearance assets. It requires the Forger Patch Manager mod to be installed. Along with new hairstyles, hair colors and beard styles with additional customization points, the mod also introduces new skin tones, facial presets, variable body proportions and much more. While it promotes complete control of Eivor’s appearance, players can expect to see a number of side effects when applying otherwise unavailable changes. These can vary in form from hairstyles clipping through outfits to darker skin tones being displayed poorly.
Fix Cutscenes Ultrawide
Although the game’s story is not told exclusively through cutscenes, some of the major events in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla rely on in-game cinematics to contribute to the quality of narrative execution and boost the gameplay experience. Naturally, the more stable the performance, the better the results, but players with ultrawide monitors are left with the short end of the stick.
The Fix Cutscene Ultrawide mod addresses this issue and adjusts the resolution of cutscenes to fit ultrawide monitors accordingly. The fix improves the visual fidelity of eight resolutions in total, five for players who own a monitor with a 21:9 ratio and three for those with a monitor boasting a 32:9 ratio.
COLOR CORRECTION – REALISTIC Reshade Preset
As an artistic and technical marvel in its own right, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla lush open world presents one of the game’s greatest accomplishments. Players can easily spend dozens of hours taking in the sights alone, but the game engine often exaggerates the environmental aesthetic, making it appear overly saturated and unrealistic.
COLOR CORRECTION – REALISTIC Reshade Preset gives the game a more natural look by correcting some of the colors in its visuals without using any heavy shaders. The mod introduces three versions of varying adjustments, which include color correction and isolation, sharpened imagery and other visual effects. Players can expect a minimal or zero framerate drop with the performance based XXS version, whereas XS and XL versions focus on quality rather than performance and result in a 3 to 6 FPS decrease, respectively.
Remove Startup Logos
As far as loading times or startup screens are concerned, most games leave the players hanging until they boot. Although some cinematic inserts are strategically placed throughout certain games to disguise various engine limitations, others that come before the title screen often cannot be skipped and take on the role of advertising space.
While it is a fairly common and recurring mod for many PC games, Remove Startup Logos does exactly as its name suggests in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Along with the screen addressing the game’s Autosave feature, the mod replaces the three logo cinematics of Ubisoft, Anvil and Ryzen with three seconds of black screen. Technically speaking, this allows the players to get to the title screen in three seconds instead of the usual 90.

No one game can claim to be free of glitches and bugs that may cause it to randomly freeze, have the characters fall through the map or display objects in the wrong place. While Ubisoft has improved the engine’s performance in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, some aspects of Eivor’s gear were overlooked.
Although the name of the mod alludes to something that could potentially affect the game mechanics, Hide This … merely removes sheaths from Eivor’s back that serve no purpose. Even when Eivor is not using twin weapons to vanquish their foes or has a single two-handed weapon equipped, the game continually displays the unnecessary sheaths on their back. Not only does the mod provide a customizable solution for sheaths on both sides, including the bow sheath, but it can also be used to remove the masks from Jomsvikings made by other players.
