The world of anime is renowned for its incredible variety of heroes and villains, and the most legendary anime villains range from the likes of Frieza to the scheming Sosuke Aizen and arguably even Eren Yeager, the former Eldian hero.
Anime villains are people too, and some of them are cool-headed schemers and tacticians while others let their emotions get the best of them, especially when they’re fighting the hero. Hot-headed villains know what’s at stake and they will get angry or even panic when their plans are threatened.

Dio Brando was born into poverty in Victorian England and he longed to gain power & leave his mark on the world at the Joestar family’s expense. Dio had a passionate feud with Jonathan Joestar in the 1880s, then returned in the 1980s as DIO, the ultimate Stand user.
DIO was cool and aloof at first in Stardust Crusaders, but when he fought Jotaro’s gang, his blood ran hot and he boasted endlessly of his great power. DIO died in rage and defiance, unwilling to acknowledge his defeat.
9 COOL: Sosuke Aizen Has Planned For Everything (Bleach)
Captain Sosuke Aizen from Bleach once commanded squad 5 in the Soul Society, secretly plotting to betray his fellow and seize the empty throne of heaven itself. The entire time, Aizen was a cool, calculating villain who never let his emotions get the better of him. When he lost to Ichigo and Kisuke Urahara, Aizen did have a moment of defiant rage, but he was otherwise confident that everything was going according to plan. It seems nothing can rattle Aizen except Kisuke’s clever plots.
8 HOTHEADED: Akito Sohma Is Known For Her Tantrums (Fruits Basket)
For most of Fruits Basket’s runtime, the reclusive Sohma family head Akito was antagonistic toward the heroine, Tohru Honda. Akito had a rather short fuse, too. Akito is the “god” of the zodiac, and she has serious attachment issues. Akito will fly into a rage or simply panic if there’s any sign of the zodiac members disobeying her or leaving her, especially Kureno, the rooster, or Yuki, the rat. Tohru, Kyo and Yuki really had their hands full dealing with the fierce and emotionally abusive Akito Sohma.
7 COOL: Azami Nakiri Doesn’t Lose His Head (Food Wars!)
Azami is an expert chef in Food Wars!, but he doesn’t like the idea of other chefs pursuing their own cooking styles. He wants everything done his way, or else. Azami was a classic cool and aloof villain who had total confidence in his plans, including his many connections in the culinary world and his ability to emotionally manipulate Erina and intimidate her into doing his bidding. He only lost his cool at the last moment, when Erina and Soma finally defeated him in the ultimate cooking contest.
6 HOTHEADED: Demon Lord Clayman Has A Flair For The Dramatic (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)
Demon Lord Clayman actually laughs out loud when his plans come to fruition. Clayman was once a part of the Demon Lord council, and he was also partnered with the scheming isekai character Yuuki Kagurazaka.
Clayman occasionally tried to act calm, but he often got excited by good news or threw a tantrum when things went wrong for him. During his final meeting at Walpurgis, he let his emotions get the best of him, and he panicked and flew into a rage when Rimuru and his ally Shion cornered him. He died in a fit of agony.
5 COOL: Chrollo Lucifer Stays Calm At All Times (Hunter X Hunter)
Chrollo Lucifer is the boss of the Phantom Troupe, which makes him one of Kurapika’s worst enemies in Hunter X Hunter. Chrollo is always cool-headed and collected. Even when Kurapika actually captured him in Nen chains, Chrollo kept his wits about him. Kurapika was actually frustrated that Chrollo Lucifer wasn’t panicking at all and eventually had to let him go. Chrollo was clearly unfazed by any of this and he resumed leading the Phantom Troupe like before. That takes nerves of steel.
4 HOTHEADED: Tomura Shigaraki Is A Brat (My Hero Academia)
Tomura Shigaraki suffered greatly when his Decay Quirk first activated in his boyhood. All For One and Dr. Garaki helped somewhat, but even then, Tomura was a hotheaded person who let his emotions get the best of him.
Tomura, according to most pro heroes, is an impatient man-child prone to tantrums, but he is still growing as a villain and a person. Tomura cooled his head just a little later on and by the time he joined forces with Re-Destro, he was slightly more stable – but he’s still a hothead unlike his mentor, All For One.
3 COOL: Wrath Isn’t Actually Angry (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Despite his name, the homunculus Wrath is a cool-headed villain who has a sharp, focused mind to match his twin sabers. Wrath’s anger is expressed in his actions, not his words, since he ruthlessly hunts down and slices apart his foes in combat. He has no concept of mercy whatsoever.
Wrath also has to maintain his cover as King Bradley, the “human” leader of the nation of Amestris. He can’t afford to blow his top or lose his temper when dealing with Edward Elric, Roy Mustang or other enemies of Father. Wrath is an ice-cold killer.
2 HOTHEADED: Hidan Loves Shedding Blood (Naruto)
Hidan is a brutal thug and a member of the cult of Jashin. He can also use his own body as a voodoo doll of sorts, and if he ingests his enemy’s blood, he can injure or kill his foe by harming himself first. Since he’s immortal, Hidan can slay his enemies without dying in the process.
Hidan loves to fight and he sees each battle as a solemn ritual with no regard for human life. He also has a short temper and is prone to arguing with his partner Kakuzu. Hidan is quick to curse his enemies and seek their deaths with little provocation.
1 COOL: Annie Leonhart Isn’t Easily Provoked (Attack On Titan)
Annie Leonhart is the terrifying Female Titan and can kill dozens of Scout members in cold blood if the mission calls for it. She once tried to capture Eren, then fought and lost to him in the walled city. Annie is a fierce fighter, but to her it’s just business.
Annie is stoic and aloof around both friend and foe, and she rarely states or shows what she is thinking. There was that time she burst out laughing when Armin and Mikasa identified her as the Female Titan, but that was an exception. Otherwise, she’s cool as ice.
