When David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie came out, fans and critics were alike less than happy with it. And although the version that was released was not David Ayer’s true vision for the film, it is the version that fans got. Then DC tapped James Gunn to create a soft reboot of the franchise, following his previous comic book adaptation success with Guardians of the Galaxy.
Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was met with rave reviews from critics and fans alike despite its limping box office performance. DC has created so many great comic book movies, but for every great one there are more than a couple bad ones that could benefit from a second take.
10 Should Get A Redo: Batman & Robin
Batman & Robin is the worst reviewed Batman film of all time by a wide margin, having only a 12% rating on the site Rotten Tomatoes. This movie had all the elements to be great— the dynamic duo, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, and Bane— but it could just not come together.
If this movie was given another shot it could be truly great, especially if elements like the Bat-nipples and Bat credit card were taken out of it. Batman & Robin had so much potential, but failed to capitalize at every turn.
9 Perfect As Is: Superman The Movie
In 1978, Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie gave people a whole new moviegoing experience. The tagline for the film, “You’ll Believe A Man Can Fly,” says it all— and when Superman took flight on screen, it was magical. Those flying scenes helped the movie win an Academy Award for its visual effects.
On top of all that, Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman was superb. He was able to show the differences between Clark and Superman in a way that very few actors have been able to match. Superman: The Movie showed viewers that comic books films could be true cinema.
8 Should Get A Redo: Catwoman
Selina Kyle is a villain who has been around almost as long as Batman himself. She is a treasured character with a rich vault of fantastic stories— but the movie Catwoman represented none of this. Halle Berry made for a convincing Selina Kyle, but that is the only good thing about the film.
The rest is a messy story, and a Catwoman costume that should have taken some notes from the fantastic outfits in the comics. Catwoman is a character that is ripe for a big screen comeback, and fans are hoping that will start with Zoë Kravitz in The Batman.

When Gal Gadot made her big debut in Batman v Superman fans were eager to see more. And her follow up solo film, Wonder Woman, did not disappoint, being a huge hit with fans and critics alike.
The period piece superhero film showcased everything that was great about Wonder Woman. From her incredibly fighting abilities to her compassion for all people, Wonder Woman delivered an exciting and compelling film that shined a light on this essential DC hero.
6 Should Get A Redo: Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds is a household name when it comes to big actors, but Green Lantern was not his finest moment. The actor himself has acknowledged on multiple occasions that this movie is not a good one. It’s a shame, since the Green Lanterns are a key piece of the DC universe and have played big roles in multiple cosmic events.
Their powers could make for a huge on screen presence and the right story could jumpstart a multitude of outer space stories for the DCEU. Currently HBO Max is working on a Green Lantern Corps TV series that will focus on multiple Green Lanterns. Hopefully that is what this iconic franchise needs to find its place on the big screen again.
5 Perfect As Is: The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight is widely considered to be one of the best comic book movies of all time and definitely the best Batman film ever. Christopher Nolan was able to perfectly combine realism with the more fantastical elements of the comics, and it produced the iconic team of Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.
As Batman and Joker, they dominated the screen and completely captured fans’ imaginations. The Dark Knight will undoubtedly withstand the test of time and live as a testament to how amazing superhero films can truly be.
4 Should Get A Redo: Swamp Thing
Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing is not without its merits. The costume for Swamp Thing is fairly decent and the story of Alec Holland becoming Swamp Thing is mostly well done. Sadly, the movie is held back by the campiness that was prevalent in the ’80s, stopping the film from becoming what it could have been: A horror cult classic.
If this movie was redone it could take notes from the 2019 Swamp Thing TV series. It only ran for a single season, but it had a big impact on the fans. Swamp Thing needs to lean into the horror and mystical aspects that made it such a successful comic book.
3 Perfect As Is: Birds Of Prey
Birds Of Prey was not the most critically acclaimed film, but it was still an incredibly fun and wild ride with another amazing performance by Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The movie also introduced Huntress played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Jurnee Smollett as Black Canary.
It was a zany adventure that felt like it was ripped straight from the mind of Harley Quinn herself. The icing on the cake was Ewan McGregor’s stunning performance as the menacing Black Mask. For the most part, all aspects of this movie clicked and presented a fun movie for comic book fans.
2 Should Get A Redo: Batman Forever
Batman: Forever was another example of a Batman movie that wasn’t what it could’ve been. Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones played extremely over the top versions of Riddler and Two-Face, respectively, the latter in particular missing the mark with many fans. While Val Kilmer is an extremely talented actor, his Batman didn’t seem to capture audiences like Michael Keaton’s did.
Coming off of Batman: Returns, the massive tonal shift between the two films was hard for fans to adjust to. If it was redone, Riddler and Two-face would need to be toned down and the whole film would need a more noir vibe.
1 Perfect As Is: Batman Mask Of The Phantasm
Considered to be the pinnacle of Batman animated movies, Mask of the Phantasm is even considered by some fans to be the best Batman movie period.
The film very successfully introduced the vengeance-driven Phantasm who acted as a dark reflection of Batman, but unlike Batman did not have a strict no-killing code. The film perfectly encapsulated that era of Batman and the impact of Batman: The Animated Series, and will likely always be remembered as one of the character’s best adaptations.
