Jean Grey is one of the strongest mutants on the planet. As an Omega level telepath, along with her telekinesis, Jean has become one of the most dependable heroes in the Marvel Universe. She has led the X-Men, hosted the cosmic Phoenix Force, and has served on the Quiet Council of the mutant nation of Krakoa. These are just a few things that make up a very impressive resume.
While there are plenty of honorable and powerful heroes in the DC Universe it can be expected that there are some heroes that she would gravitate to rather than others.
10 Martian Manhunter Is Also A Telepath
J’onn J’onzz was one of the last Martians alive when he fled to Earth, where he found a new home, albeit one where he still felt out of place. However, despite his differences with the people of Earth, he embraced their culture wholeheartedly and has often since been referred to as the heart of the Justice League.
It’s hard to imagine Jean Grey having much in common with a green Martian from outer space, but it could be fairly expected that Jean and Martian Manhunter would become quick friends and allies over their shared bond of telepathy. With Martian Manhunter being one of the most powerful telepaths on Earth and the only one in the Justice League, there’s no doubt that he could greatly enjoy Jean’s company, with both being incredibly well-read and well-mannered heroes who are well-respected in their respective fields.
9 Guy Gardner Grinds Everyone’s Gears
It’s no secret that the Green Lantern Corps is filled with talented, unique individuals. It is also a well-known fact that some Green Lanterns are harder to get along with than others. Guy Gardner is without a doubt the most difficult of all Green Lanterns, his capabilities with his Power Ring notwithstanding.
While Jean Grey is a very patient and respectful person, if there is any hero who could test that patience to its limits, it’s Gardner. Any team-up between the two would surely be a tense one, with Guy bound to make a flurry of inappropriate or annoying comments. It wouldn’t even be that much of a surprise to see Jean employ a sort of temporary mental block in Guy’s mind that would stop him from using his vocal cords during their team-up.
8 The Flash Also Has A Fast-Moving Mind
Barry Allen has always been seen as the heart of the Justice League. His compassion, optimism, and calm nature under pressure have done more good for the League and its members than they might realize. His absences from the team have been greatly noticed, and it’s safe to say the Justice League becomes a more rational team with the Flash involved.
Like Barry Allen, Jean Grey is revered for her composure. Among great minds such as Hank McCoy and Charles Xavier, Jean is often heard as the voice of reason. It is through this same form of reason that Barry Allen and Jean would strike up a bond. Also, with the use of her telepathy, Jean could mentally communicate with Barry at the increased rate that his brain works due to his super-speed.
7 Batman Doesn’t Always Work Well With Others
It’s no secret that Batman is difficult to work with. His history of clashing with other League members is extensive, leading to his dismissal from the team on more than one occasion. But what the Dark Knight lacks in collaborative skills, he makes up for in his dedication, efficiency, and results.
In the circumstance where Jean Grey would find herself in Gotham City, a run-in with Batman is all but certain. It should be expected that the two wouldn’t exactly have the best chemistry, with Batman known for being wary of telepaths or any sort of psychic powers. Jean may even find the Dark Knight’s grim attitude unproductive and would be very confused to find that Batman could well be readily equipped with some sort of mental block that would stop her from being able to read his mind.
6 Black Canary Is The Perfect Partner For Jean Grey
Dinah Lance is one of the most compassionate members of the Justice League and is well-known for her heart of gold. On top of being a member of the Justice League, Birds of Prey, and being one of the most skilled hand-to-hand fighters in the entire DC Universe, Black Canary is renowned for the care and love she shows to everyone.
There’s no doubt that two women like Dinah Lance and Jean Grey wouldn’t find a connection between them. Both are incredibly strong, intelligent, and independent women who are integral to their respective teams and the people around them. The respect that they both command would only be returned by the other, and as a crime-fighting duo they have the potential to be one of the best.
5 Huntress Would Certainly Clash With Jean Grey
Born into a mob family, Helena Bertinelli was the only survivor of a planned attack against her family and swore to uphold the legacy of her family’s name, becoming the Huntress. Helena would go on to join Spyral, where she would develop a grim and aggressive means of getting results, making her increasingly hard to work with.
Jean is very set in her ethics and has almost never strayed away from them. Huntress, meanwhile, is known for being more tied to a moral grey area, which would be sure to cause friction between the two superheroines. Huntress certainly has no need for a handler, and would most likely not be keen to have Jean
4 Oracle Would Provide Great Backup
After being shot in the spine by the Joker, Barbara Gordon hung up the mantle of Batgirl and became Oracle, a centrifuge of knowledge and information for the superhero community. Even after she regained the ability to walk, she has continued to serve as Oracle, providing aid to dozens of heroes and becoming a reliable source of information to many allies.
There’s no doubt that Barbara Gordon and Jean Grey would strike a connection, with both being very impressed by the other’s intelligence. Barbara’s resourcefulness is only matched by her efficiency, much like Jean herself. A very dangerous dynamic duo, the team of Oracle and Jean Grey is certainly one to be feared.
3 Shazam Is Literally A Child
Billy Batson was bestowed with the power of Shazam, making him an incredible superhero. Since then, he’s gone on to be a member of the Justice Society, the Justice League, and the leader of the Shazam family, sharing his power with his foster brother and sisters. But the only catch is that Billy Batson is actually a child, who turns into the full-grown Shazam when his powers are activated.
The key factor that would probably get in the way of a team-up between Shazam and Jean Grey is Shazam’s alter ego. With Billy Batson being the host of Shazam, it means Shazam is imbued with incredible power but the personality of a pre-teen. With Jean Grey being able to read Shazam’s mind, she would immediately know that Billy is actually in control of Shazam, which would add some level of immaturity to their job.
2 Cassandra Cain Would Love Having A Mentor
Cassandra Cain has one of the most troubled pasts in the Bat-family, after being trained by her father David Cain to become the perfect assassin for the League of Shadows. Finding the strength to reject her training, Cassandra was rescued by Batman and instead decided to devote herself to doing good, donning the mantles of Orphan and most recently Batgirl.
Jean Grey has always been a role model for mutants everywhere. She’s been a loyal member of the X-Men, even leading her own teams on several occasions, and has acted as a teacher at the Xavier School for years. There’s no doubt that someone as passionate and earnest as Cassandra Cain would look up to Jean Grey, and Jean’s appreciation for Cassandra would turn these two into a fantastic team.
1 John Constantine Wouldn’t Trust Telepathy
John Constantine is many things: Hellblazer, master of magic, detective, but he is certainly not friendly or easy to get along with. His ego, wit, and reluctance to work with others make him better off working alone, and if he was to be forced into a team-up with Jean Grey, there’s no doubt that the two wouldn’t cooperate well.
Similar to Batman, it wouldn’t be entirely out of character for Constantine to have some sort of spell at his disposal that would prevent Jean from using her telepathy on or around him, as Constantine is known to keep his cards close to the chest. The X-Men’s famous telepath would most likely find the magician overconfident and reckless, making for a tense team-up, to say the least.
