5 Characters Who’ve Changed The Most (& 5 Who’ve Changed The Least)

[ad_1]

It has been thirteen years since Iron Man flew into theaters and changed the landscape of movies. In the time that has passed, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown to become the most successful film franchise in history with 25 movies released and lots more on the way. Even more impressive is just how many lesser-known characters like Ant-Man, Drax, and Shang-Chi have become household names.

Many of them have changed a lot since we first saw them on the big screen while others have stayed pretty much the same. The growth, or lack thereof in some cases, can really say a lot about a character.

10 Changed: Wanda Is A Vastly Different Person Now

It took a number of movies and her very own Disney Plus show, but Wanda Maximoff is finally the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When we first met Wanda way back in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she was an angry but quiet young woman looking to take out her rage on the world with a power she didn’t understand.

Over the course of the films, Wanda suffered some major losses, including her brother Pietro and the synthezoid she loved, Vision. At the same time, Wanda became more sure of herself and her abilities, leading to her battle with Agatha Harkness. What such a confident and powerful being will do next can only be answered in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

9 Stayed The Same: Steve Rogers Was Always A Good Man

Captain America Cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Even before he was given the super-soldier serum and doused with vita-rays, Steve Rogers had the heart of a hero. All that happened when puny Steve was turned into Captain America was that he finally had the muscle to stand up and fight for the little guy.

After coming out of the ice, Steve Rogers may have been met with a very different world shaped by the pop culture and historical events he missed, but nothing ever made him waver from who he really was, a kid from Brooklyn who didn’t like bullies.

8 Changed: Nebula Found A Family

Nebula and Thor: Love & Thunder

The less-loved daughter of Thanos, Nebula, was forced to endure the worst elements of the Mad Titan’s wrath. While Gamora was praised, Nebula was torn apart and put back together with technology. This made Nebula quite angry, and rightfully so. But across the two Guardians of the Galaxy films and Avengers: Endgame, Nebula comes to see that there is another path, choosing to leave behind a life of servitude and evil to join her sister and the Guardians in being a force for good. She may still be a little grumpy, but now she’s grumpy for the good guys.

7 Stayed The Same: Baron Zemo Stuck To His Plan

From the moment we met Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War he had one goal; save the world from super soldiers. In the movie, Zemo set about doing this by turning the heroes against one another, and it kind of worked – by the time the universe was threatened by Thanos, the Avengers were broken up and no one was ready to deal with an intergalactic threat.

When we next saw Zemo in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the villain still has the same goal, and he once again succeeds when he destroys the last of the super-soldier serum. From start to finish, Zemo knew what he wanted to do and he never strayed.

6 Changed: Hulk And Banner Are One And The Same

Banner Hulk Talking in Endgame

For so much of the history of the MCU, Hulk and Bruce Banner were fighting each other for dominance. The Incredible Hulk is all about Burce trying to learn how to control the beast within, and by Avengers, he has enough control that the Hulk won’t just randomly rampage; instead, he focuses on the Chitauri. But in Age of Ultron, Banner once again loses control and flies off into the unknown.

In Thor: Ragnarok, it looks like Hulk has taken full control, but in time, the two begin to work together again… only to be undone by Thanos. Thankfully, in Endgame, we see the perfection of teamwork wherein Bruce Banner’s mind works with Hulk’s body, combining the best of both worlds, brawn and brains.

5 Stayed The Same: Wasp Was Always Ready

From the moment we met Hope Pym in Ant-Man, it’s clear that she is more than capable of wearing the suit and handling things herself, but Hope doesn’t get the chance to prove that to her father until Ant-Man and the Wasp, at which point see what we all knew; Hope Pym kicks butt.

We get another taste of Hope’s skills as the Wasp when she shows up in Endgame to help in the final battle. Sure, she just came back from the dead after five years, but that doesn’t stop her from jumping right into the fray and doing what she can to save the universe.

4 Stayed The Same: Nick Fury Is Still Working From Behind The Scenes

From the moment he first showed up in the post-credits scene of Iron Man all the way to the reveal that he’s currently hanging out in space while a Skrull stands in for him in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Nick Fury has been doing one thing – keeping secrets and manipulating people.

Sure, Fury is doing what he’s doing for the greater good, but no one likes to be toyed with, and if the one-eyed spy doesn’t learn his lesson soon, it could all come back to bite him – and the world – right in the butt.

3 Changed: Thor Went Through Literal Hell And Back

Thor standing in Thor Ragnarok

It’s possible that no one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed as much as Thor has. Even in his first film, Thor learns humility, going from a hotheaded goofball to a true hero, but if that isn’t enough, his mother was murdered, his father died, he learned that he had an evil sister who he had to kill, he was forced to destroy Asgard, he lost an eye, and his brother was killed right in front of him and he failed to stop Thanos from wiping out half of all existence. Since his first appearance, Thor has gone from a pampered petulant child to a man filled with sadness and doubt.

2 Stayed The Same: Rocket Is Still A Cranky Raccoon

When we first met Rocket, he was a cranky raccoon who had a thing about taking prosthetics from people. We know that deep down he cares for Groot and the rest of the Guardians, but that doesn’t stop Rocket from sniping at them from time to time, and he really loves to put Star-Lord down when he can.

In Infinity War, Rocket makes it clear that he wants the Winter Soldier’s metal arm, and in Endgame, the furry pilot pulls out a cybernetic eye for Thor to have. All the while, he’s still snarking on everyone and goofing on Quill.

1 Changed: Loki Wouldn’t Recognize Himself

Loki proud of himself Loki tv series

Loki started off as a rather flat villain in the first Thor film, but in the second film, he seemed to have changed his ways right up until we see that he has faked his own death and quietly taken over Asgard. In Ragnarok, Loki really seems to finally become a hero, but that side of him doesn’t last long since Thanos quickly snaps his neck in Infinity War.

It is in the Loki series on Disney Plus where fans really get to see Loki change. Upon learning about the Time Variance Authority, Loki comes to see just how powerless he really is in the universe, but also finds himself learning the most important lesson; change can be hard.
