The MCU features a dazzling variety of superheroes, but not all of them need magic hammers or high-tech suits to save the day. Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) is a trained assassin and infiltrator who’s highly effective against most humans. She would also make a great coach.
Black Widow could train a new assassin to succeed her someday, and she could find talented students not only from the MCU, but also from other realms of action and adventure fiction. A great area to choose from would be the expansive world of anime. Plenty of animated heroes would be eager to learn from Black Widow, but not all of them are worthy. Which ones have the right stuff to become Black Widow’s apprentice?
10 BLACK WIDOW WOULD TRAIN: Toru Hagakure Has Raw Talent Suitable For Spies (My Hero Academia)
Some Quirks are more suitable for superspy work than others. If Black Widow could choose a student from the U.A. school to train, she would pick out Toru Hagakure, whose invisible body gives her an obvious advantage in Black Widow’s line of work.
Despite Toru’s goofy personality, she is serious about hero work and isn’t afraid to put in the time to enhance her combat abilities. Toru is already training in hand to hand combat, and Black Widow could teach her things that not even All Might or Eraser Head would know.
9 BLACK WIDOW WOULDN’T TRAIN: Takemichi Hanagaki Has Guts, But No Talent (Tokyo Revengers)
Takemichi Hanagaki is the main character of the time-traveling series Tokyo Revengers. A gritty underdog, Takemichi is familiar with delinquent life. While he does have grit, he lacks natural talent for fighting.
Black Widow would appreciate Takemichi’s sheer grit, but he is hardly a superspy in the making and wouldn’t last long against Hydra agents or other foes. She will have to search elsewhere for an apprentice.
8 BLACK WIDOW WOULD TRAIN: Kohaku Is Agile, Brave & Thinks On Her Feet (Dr. Stone)
Despite living in a literal stone age, the nimble warrior Kohaku would greatly impress Black Widow.
Kohaku already has some impressive skills. Like Black Widow, she mainly focuses on agility, small weapons, and precision in battle to take down larger foes. Kohaku would gladly learn more from Black Widow, and the two of them would form an unstoppable team.
7 BLACK WIDOW WOULDN’T TRAIN: Annie Leonhart Has Talent, But Questionable Commitment & Goals (Attack On Titan)
Annie Leonhart is the Female Titan’s wielder, a warrior fighting for the Marley Empire without much conviction. Annie only cares for herself and her father, and isn’t sympathetic to any other cause. She is not a sentimental person or a dreamer, and Black Widow would not be impressed.
Black Widow isn’t terribly idealistic either, but she is fully committed to S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers. Annie is far too apathetic by comparison to be worth training as a new Avenger. Besides, Annie’s true strength comes from her Titan Shifter form, which doesn’t mesh well with Black Widow’s fighting style.
6 BLACK WIDOW WOULD TRAIN: Yuji Itadori Has Martial Arts Talents & A Hero’s Heart (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Yuji Itadori is a classic shonen protagonist. He’s a tough and brave kid who will risk his life to fight for what’s right. He has some natural talent as a hero, like having unusual strength and speed for a kid his age. He even has the power of Sukuna inside him. But, he won’t let that dark power corrupt him.
Yuji is eager to receive training from mentors such as Satoru Gojo, and he also learned much from Aoi Todo. Given the chance, he would also ask Black Widow for training to boost his agility and technique.
5 BLACK WIDOW WOULDN’T TRAIN: Arthur Boyle’s Fighting Style & Personality Aren’t A Good Fit (Fire Force)
Arthur Boyle is a fire soldier with style. He fancies himself King Arthur of Camelot, complete with the sword Excalibur, and this helps him draw out his true strength. However, there is nothing subtle about how he fights.
While Arthur is an impressive soldier while in king mode, he is far too flashy for Black Widow’s tastes, and he has shown no serious aptitude for unarmed combat or small arms usage. He’s also not clever or witty enough to be a spy/assassin like Black Widow.
4 BLACK WIDOW WOULD TRAIN: Edward Elric Has What It Takes (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Despite his hot temper and stubbornness, Edward Elric would be a fine apprentice for Black Widow. Edward received martial arts training from Izumi Curtis the alchemist, and he has the resourceful and creative mind of a scientist.
All that combined with his heroic personality and sheer guts would make him well-suited for training under Black Widow. Edward is also small and agile, allowing him to easily outmaneuver enemies and sneak into enemy territory.
3 BLACK WIDOW WOULDN’T TRAIN: Chad Is Strong But Slow (Bleach)
Ichigo’s good friend Chad is tough for his age and has a noble heart. Once a bully, Chad learned to use his immense strength to shield others, and he fights bravely by Ichigo’s side against all manner of foes. He’s perfectly willing to receive training, but Black Widow wouldn’t be in the mood.
While Chad is strong like the Hulk or Thor, he is straightforward in battle and doesn’t use any advanced techniques. Black Widow’s skills would be wasted on him, so she would suggest that Chad hang out with Thor instead.
2 BLACK WIDOW WOULD TRAIN: Asami Sato Could Learn Much From Black Widow (The Legend Of Korra)
Asami Sato may not be a bender, but she is a brave and loyal fighter all the same. She has access to all kinds of gadgets, from motorcycles and airships to Equalist-style shock gloves. She also learned martial arts from her father, Hiroshi Sato.
Asami would ask Black Widow for additional training if they ever met and Black Widow would give her a shot. Asami has what it takes, including her noble heart. She will always fight for justice, like a true Avenger.
1 BLACK WIDOW WOULDN’T TRAIN: Shion Is Enthusiastic But Reckless (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)
Shion is an evolved ogre whose heart burns for Rimuru Tempest, her boss, and will gladly take on any challenge to impress or protect him. Shion once clashed with Suphia and took on the otherworlder foes of the Falmuth army. That said, she is not suitable for training from Black Widow.
Shion is enthusiastic but blunt in battle and everyday life, and she relies on brute strength to win a fight. She also insists on fighting with her giant sword, which is totally unsuitable for Black Widow’s fighting style. Souei may be a ninja, but not Shion.
