Author Ian Fleming’s fictional character of James Bond has become synonymous with huge movie franchises, with its premise and tradition of recasting the lead for James Bond, making the series almost immortal and timeless. Known as Agent 007 for the British Secret Intelligence Service, James Bond is always getting into intense action-packed situations, with the movies generally being a wonderful blend of this chaos and gunfire, with overlying story arcs shrouded in mystery and espionage.
Following Daniel Craig’s final movie in his stint as James Bond, it will be some time before the next movie of the series. Luckily, there are plenty of television series that can fill that void in the meantime, whether it’s spies on the job, an intense multi-layered overarching storyline, or even just explosions and tense standoffs.
10 Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Is A Spy Thriller Series Worth Watching
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan takes the intensity and action from a spy thriller series and adds an additional layer of political drama. Despite there being multiple movie appearances from Jack Ryan with other actors being used in the past, the series is arguably a much better format for the nature of the stories being told, allowing for better exploration of the “Ryanverse.” Smaller chunks of episodes allow for more intensity through cliff-hangers and thought-provoking topics and issues to mull over between watching sessions.
Following in the footsteps of movie counterparts Chris Pine and Harrison Ford, to name a few, John Krasinski has made the role of Jack Ryan his own and the series is well worth a watch.
9 Rami Malek’s Range Is Once Again On Show In Mr. Robot
Following Rami Malek’s stellar performance as the villainous Lyutsifer Safin, fans of the James Bond movies may look for various television shows featuring the multiple actors from No Time To Die. Mr. Robot is an especially popular series in itself. Malek plays Elliot, a cyber engineer and vigilante hacker.
Mr. Robot is a psychological thriller that thrives on vigilante idealism, taking the fight to corporate America and the big companies, although the intensity is quickly dialed up a notch to become more than just that.
8 Archer Is Certainly A Hilarious Form Of Spy Entertainment
Archer is certainly a different take on the world of spies and secret agents but is still frantic and engaging enough, through its comedy and general animated sitcom vibe. With the initial focus being on a band of dysfunctional secret agents for the fictional agency International Secret Intelligence Service, Archer‘s missions, storylines, and general hilarity are exaggerated and chaotic.
Archer does still have its action-packed spy and espionage-filled adventures, tackling topics seen in franchises such as James Bond, just with different approaches to the delivery of entertainment.

The Bureau, or Le Bureau des Légendes as is its original title, is a French political thriller that follows an intelligence officer who returns home to Paris after spending six long years undercover, and his subsequent struggle in adapting and reintegrating back into normal society.
Spanning five seasons from 2015 to 2020, The Bureau has everything that a spy fiction piece should have, with its riveting storytelling and captivating performances. For fans of spy movies or shows of any kind, The Bureau is worth checking out, and the 8.7 rating on IMDb only reaffirms that fact.
6 Jack Bauer & 24 Bring The Chaos & Tension
The series 24 and its main protagonist, counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer, shot to prominence due to the success of the initial series and its premise. 24 stuck to its unique idea of having an episode representing an hour in real-time with a clock ticking to help reinforce that overriding theme of the show.
Not only did 24 have the high octane level of intensity that the likes of James Bond has in several scenes, but they kept that intensity up at an incredibly consistent rate. The show danced around multiple genres from serial drama to espionage and crime thriller, packing all that action and plenty of ethical dilemmas into a digestible format of episodes, while keeping it fresh with plenty of additional talent making appearances.
5 Condor Is Rife With Conspiracy & Deception
Condor is an American thriller television series that premiered in 2018 and has two seasons to its name. As a thriller with many twists and turns, plenty of conspiracy and plotting, fans of the various twists and turns within the James Bond series should take kindly to this series.
One guy fighting the world by himself, albeit not quite in a James Bond way, is still a premise that is used in many of the James Bond movies.
4 Chuck Is A Normal Guy Unwittingly Thrust Into The Frantic World Of The Spy
The American action drama spy-turned-romance series Chuck saw the titular character, Chuck Bartowski, played by Zachary Levi, unwittingly thrust into a frantic world of spies and espionage. With a special code embedded into his head making him the Intersect, Chuck was a valuable asset to the likes of the CIA and NSA, with him given a protective team comprised of Yvonne Strahovski’s Sarah Walker and John Casey, played by Adam Baldwin.
The series has everything, from intense and emotional story arcs to pure action-packed spy missions, all the way to simple comic relief moments, often happening at Chuck’s official place of work at the Buy More.
3 As Far As Thrillers Go, Homeland Ticks All Of The Boxes
When thinking of psychological, political, and espionage thrillers, Homeland is often one of the first names to come to mind, due to it ticking all three boxes. The show burst onto the scene with Claire Danes’ exceptional performance as CIA officer Carrie Mathison, and Damian Lewis as Nicholas Brody.
Their complicated relationship and intense interactions, linking in with the overarching narrative, with twists and turns, make for one of the most compelling and exhilarating thrillers on TV, especially for its first few seasons. It would eventually get eight seasons with its finale airing in 2020.
2 Person Of Interest Is An Interesting & Unique Approach To A Crime Drama
With hacking and the invasion of personal privacy being among many ethical issues James Bond has faced over the years, the main premise of Person Of Interest tackles similar issues in a unique way and is captivating from the get-go.
This crime drama focuses on Harold Finch and John Reese, who utilize “the machine,” a surveillance AI that essentially predicts crimes that will occur, although despite identifying the people involved, it doesn’t necessarily identify the various roles people play in the particular crimes. Jonathan Nolan’s Person Of Interest got five seasons and 103 episodes, full of suspense and the exploration of many interesting moral issues.
1 The Night Manager Is Another Must-See For Fans Of Any Form Of Espionage Drama
The Night Manager hailed from the United Kingdom but was made available for viewing in the USA, coming to AMC only two months after it graced the UK’s BBC One. It had a stacked cast of globally renowned actors from Loki‘s Tom Hiddleston and Homeland‘s David Harewood to House‘s Hugh Laurie and many more.
The series itself had everything that an action and espionage series should have, with its own unique premise, a night manager of a hotel going undercover to help take down an arms’ dealing ring. It had plenty of twists and turns at a frantic pace, making the prospect of a second season something to look forward to.
