10 TV Shows To Watch If You Like The Good Witch

[ad_1]

From 2015 to 2021, Hallmark’s The Good Witch was a ratings darling. Starring JAG’s Catherine Bell, James Denton, and Bailee Madison, the fantasy dramedy focused on magical realism. Instead of casting spells over a black cauldron with a coven of witches, Catherine’s character, Cassie, and her daughter, Grace, were gifted with magical intuition. Call it an enchanted version of Spider-Man’s Spidey Sense.

The departure of The Good Witch after several made-for-TV films and a seven-season run leaves a gap in mystical hijinks. Luckily, there are still shows across all viewing platforms to keep fans of the Hallmark series happy.

10 Bewitched Is The Baseline For Good Magic

Dick York, Elizabeth Montgomery

No one is better at good magic than Samantha Stevens. She’s the epitome of patience when it comes to her whiny husband (at least the first incarnation), aggressive mother, and various relatives. In fact, save for Endora and her sultry twin cousin, Endora, Samantha is one of the most powerful sorceresses around.

Yet, in the 1960s classic Bewitched, Sam doesn’t flout her amazing abilities. Like Cassie in The Good Witch, she’d rather live a normal life. Unfortunately, this never happens. The fact she has to explain the unusual activity to nosy neighbor Gladys Kravits is even more frustrating.

9 The Wizards Of Waverly Place Features A Teenage Witch That Has Good Intentions

The cast of Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place"

Alex Russo, one of three wizards in the family, isn’t evil. The truth of the matter is, when push comes to shove, she does the right thing to correct one of her spells. It’s why her character on Wizards of Waverly Place is so popular.

In a way, Alex is the Harry Potter of the Russos. Though the Hogwarts student stealthily moves around the castle and other areas, he has a good heart. Same with Alex. Despite seeming selfish, she has an immense streak of selflessness. This is seen in the show’s finale when she comes back to rescue her brother during the Wizard competition.

8 The Charmed Sisters Serve The Good To Help Others

The Charmed sisters, be it the early 2000s originals or the CW’s reboot trio, have goodness oozing out of them. They’ve turned demons and warlocks from horrific dealers of death into, well, romantic interests. It’s all due to their intense “Power of Three.”

Like other shows, the sisters attempt to live a normal life. However, being the most powerful good witches on Earth’s plane, they are tasked with battling evil when it appears. Overall, Charmed has many features of The Good Witch. This includes the power of family and how it makes the sisters figuratively and literally stronger.

7 Nanny & The Professor Features Implied Magic

Juliet Mills and Richard Long

The concept behind Nanny and the Professor stemmed more from Disney’s Mary Poppins than Bewitched. In the Disney film, Mary’s powers are muted. She doesn’t hold up a wand and loudly speak incantations. Magical things simply happen when she’s around.

This is what Nanny and the Professor is about. Juliet Mills’ character, Phoebe, is the caretaker of a single family of four. Like The Good Witch’s Cassie, she has a magical intuition signified to the viewing audience by tinkling bells. Unlike the former, Phoebe also seems to have the capability to speak to animals.

6 Sabrina The Teenage Witch Is About A Good Teenage Magician

The cast of ABC's "Sabrina, The Teenage Witch"

What happens when your show is part of ABC’s tremendously popular T.G.I.F. lineup. If it’s Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, it becomes a huge hit. In fact, its 1996 premiere drew in 17 million viewers.

The concept isn’t the only reason why it did so well. It became the new home of Melissa Joan Hart, formerly of Nickelodeon’s Clarissa Explains It All. Along with a cast of characters that includes Caroline Rhea and Martin Mull, Sabrina is a great all-ages show about a good witch.

5 In A Discovery Of Witches, The Main Character Rediscovers Her Magic

Though it isn’t well known as other programs listed, A Discovery of Witches is a show to be viewed on streaming services like Amazon and AMC+. Based on the All Souls Trilogy book series by Deborah Harkness, the fantasy show focuses on Diana Bishop. When she discovers a bewitched manuscript in Oxford’s library, her supernatural powers emerge to unravel the secrets it holds.

During her journey, she’s joined by others. Among them is Matthew Clairmont, a university professor of biochemistry who also happens to be a vampire. Together, they work to protect the book while simultaneously battling monsters from the creature world.

4 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Featured A Pair Of Good Witches

Buffy and Willow

Willow Rosenberg is a good witch. A nerdy and shy individual at the start of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she grows into a powerful witch with amazing powers. Eventually, she helps Buffy and the Scooby Gang defeat the goddess name Glory.

Unfortunately, Willow gets addicted to her powers, which happens to good witches. Then, her girlfriend Tara, also a witch, is killed. In a rage, Willow absorbs all of the dark magic available to kill her murderer. However, in good witch fashion, she realizes her mistakes and works to return to who she originally was.

3 The Magicians Features An Academy Of Adult Wizards & Witches

In the Harry Potter series, Hogwarts is for tween and teenage witches and wizards. In Syfy’s The Magicians, the students are adults who must learn how to handle their powers. Needless to say, plenty of good witches abound.

One is Julia Wicker. She’s the childhood friend of the show’s protagonist, Quentin Coldwater. However, she isn’t admitted to Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy. Instead, Julia joins a coven that has to piece spells together. Another good witch is Alice Quinn. She comes from a family of magicians yet was neglected throughout childhood.

2 Motherland: Fort Salem Is About Witches That Fight Terrorists

The premise of Motherland: Fort Salem is based in an alternate universe. One where witches weren’t burned in Salem. Instead, the three-centuries-old Salem Accords freed them. In turn, the world is now ruled by women.

On top of this, witches are conscripted into the U.S. Army to help battle a terrorist-filled group called The Spree. Fighting against them is Raelle Collar, a minor witch with great potential, and Tally Craven, an eager witch that joins the army against the wishes of her mother.

1 WandaVision Features A Witch That Wants To Live A Good Life

Wanda uses her magic to threaten Monica

Wanda Maximoff doesn’t ask for a lot. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, she simply wants to settle down in Westview, New Jersey with Vision. Yet, for some reason, her days resemble the tropes of sitcoms from the 1950s until the 2000s.

The concept behind WandaVision is living the good life. Though something is clearly happening in their lives, Wanda tries to keep things stable. Especially after she gives birth to twin sons. In the end, despite her efforts, things fall apart. However, she’s hopeful she can restore her happy life.
