Shang-Chi has already become one of the most definitive, respected, and well-received characters in the MCU. And from the looks of the mid-credit scene, he’s well on his way to becoming an Avenger. As an Avenger, Shang-Chi would certainly be one of the most useful members, for many reasons.
With his countless resources, familial connections, and veteran knowledge/experience in the field of martial arts, he would be able to achieve and do many things that the other Avengers, past and present, simply could not. With his unique background, along with his sheer will to succeed, Shang-Chi will in time become one of the most important members of the new and developing Avengers team.
10 He Knows How To Get To Ta Lo
Very few people on Earth know of the existence of Ta Lo, let alone its location. Shang-Chi is one of these people. Not only does he know the location, but he knows how to get there without the need of a special map. Ta Lo could be a very strategic location for the Avengers in the event of an emergency.
Ying Nan, Shang-Chi’s aunt, is the village guardian— so she could provide the Avengers with some extra manpower if needed. Ta Lo is also very secluded so the Avengers could use the spot as a safe haven if no other safehouses or locations were viable.
9 Possesses & Knows How To Control/Use The 10 Rings
Aside from his awesome martial arts skills, Shang-Chi is in possession of a very rare super weapon: The 10 Rings. And from the looks of the mid-credit scene, nobody on the team really knows what exactly the 10 Rings are, nor how powerful they can be. Regardless, it is a mysterious mystical/alien/magical weapon that Shang-Chi owns.
And since Shang-Chi is a good guy, that’s all that really matters. Having this super weapon, and a wielder who knows how to use it, could be a very valuable resource for the Avengers in the future. Whether its defending Earth from alien invasions or holding off against a rogue team member, the 10 Rings are a vital tool for Shang-Chi and the Avengers.
8 Shang-Chi Should Technically Be Able To Live Forever
Both Shang-Chi and Wenwu stated, at various times throughout the film, that Wenwu has been able to live for thousands of years because he wields the 10 Rings. It is heavily implied that he could either become or already is immortal (in the sense that he can’t die from old age or disease). In other words, the rings have the ability to grant the user extra life. With that fact in mind, Shang-Chi should be able to live for thousands of years, if not forever, because of his newly acquired possession of the rings.
Assuming that the MCU decide to stick to this plot point, Shang-Chi could become a very permanent member of the MCU, since he would be able to outlast most if not all the other heroes.
7 He’s Able To Contact The 10 Rings Organization
Shang-Chi was closely involved with the 10 Rings organization as a child and had a firm understanding of their structure and philosophy. Although Shang-Chi believes that the organization is no more, his sister has resurrected the organization and redefined the group under a new image: Her image. He doesn’t know about this yet, but when he finds out, it will likely be for the better.
Unlike the other Avengers, he has a familial connection to the organization. In other words, he has insight on the group and knows how to take it down from the inside, if needed. Additionally, if the organization has truly changed for the better thanks to new leadership, Shang-Chi should be able to contact the organization for further aid or resources. No other Avenger has this much control, influence, or power over an evil organization as Shang-Chi does.
6 Can Seemingly Summon The Great Protector
Shang-Chi has a very special connection to the creatures and inhabitants of Ta Lo, particularly the big dragon that lives in the lake besides the village. The Great Protector isn’t just a magnificent blue dragon but a mystical dragon with special powers and abilities. Because of this, Shang-Chi has a rather special ally at his side.
Dragon aren’t necessarily that uncommon in the MCU, but a dragon of this power and size has yet to be seen in any of the films nor shows (except Netflix’s Iron Fist, but that might be non-cannon soon). And the one that was shown, the Fire Dragon from Muspelheim, was an enemy rather than an ally like the Great Protector.
5 He could introduce more martial Arts-Centered characters to the MCU
Shang-Chi’s schtick is martial arts. Everything that makes this character so likeable and unique centers on his training and abilities to fight using hand to hand combat. Because of this, he would be a good way to introduce other prominent Marvel martial artists, like Iron Fist, Daredevil, and Elektra, among others, into the MCU (either by transitioning them from the Netflix shows or re-introducing them as new entities).
Given how great of a martial artist he is, and how powerful his family was, an origin story for these characters could weave its way out of another Shang-Chi movie or TV show.
4 Has an arsenal of dragon scale armor & weapons
Because Shang-Chi has access Ta Lo, he also has access to all of their resources and equipment, most notably their dragon scale armor. Dragon scale armor is a unique resource that is both resilient and powerful. Dragon scales are analogous to vibranium in a way, as they are region specific and have a wide array of uses that are available only to Shang-Chi. Likewise, vibranium is found in Wakanda and is only available to the Black Panther.
Most, if not all, of the suits and weapons that the Avengers use are either very technologically advanced or alien. None of their gear comes from an ancient mystical dragon.
3 Could become the definitive hero in the West Coast
Unlike the other members of the Avengers, Shang-Chi does not have any association with NYC. He’s always been a west coast person and established his life and career in San Francisco. Because of this, Shang-Chi could become a huge presence in the west coast, something that cannot be said for the other Avengers.
He identifies with the people of San Francisco and enjoys their culture. In a way, he could become a symbol for the city, much like how Spider-Man is the face of Manhattan. Shang-Chi’s strong connection to the west coast could set him up to become a founding member of the MCU’s West Coast Avengers.
2 He could become the MCU’s main street-Level hero
The MCU does not have many street level heroes (at least those that were not seen in the Netflix shows). Most of the Avengers were trained to take on intergalactic threats, AKA Thanos-level threats. Though the MCU needs heroes like these, it seems a bit much as of now. Spider-Man was basically the Avenger’s only street level hero, but now that his time may be coming to an end in the MCU, someone else will seemingly need to take his place.
Shang-Chi would be the perfect candidate. He knows martial arts, is ideal for taking on the non-alien villains in the MCU, and he has knowledge and equipment that could help him to take on more meta-human threats.
1 Shang-Chi Is a symbol for the Asian community
Shang-Chi’s been nicknamed Marvel’s first Asian super hero. This is a huge title to hold and it comes with a lot of perks and responsibilities. Shang-Chi can connect with the Asian community in a way that no other member of the Avengers can. Coming from the Far East, he’s grown up in the Asian culture that many east Asian Americans are familiar with. He speaks the same language as they do and he follows the same customs.
The Asian community has not seen a symbol like this for a long time, and Shang-Chi has come to fill in the gap— both in the MCU and in real life.
