Racing simulation games have been a hit among gamers for many years. Within those years, Gran Turismo has been crowned king of all the racing games available. However, in 2005, a racing title named Forza was released exclusively for Xbox, which threatened Gran Turismo’s sovereignty.
Although Forza wasn’t one of the most critically acclaimed racing titles when it first came out, a game created solely for the Xbox and backed up by Microsoft meant it was only a matter of time until it clashed with Gran Turismo. That said, both games are great in their own right, and the race to be the best is still very close. However, if Gran Turismo wants to take first place, it’ll have to adapt to the times and make some improvements.
10 Realism Is A Blessing And A Curse
As far as graphics and music are concerned, both Forza and Gran Turismo are artistically beautiful. However, the physics in Gran Turismo are a little too realistic. For example, racing in real life is incredibly hard, and racing at high rates of speed and turning corners is a skill few people have.
Gran Turismo prides itself on getting the physics in a racing game right. However, some gamers don’t appreciate the realistic take. People often want to take a break from reality and have fun when they’re gaming. In that regard, Forza provides this escapism. It has easier mechanics and is more forgiving of mistakes. So, if Gran Turismo wants to cater to the masses, they may have to dial down their realistic approach to racing.
9 Gran Turismo Needs More Cars In Their Game
For a racing game that specializes in cars, Gran Turismo lacks the variety of vehicles gamers can select. On the other hand, Forza has numerous cars to choose from. In fact, it can be pretty overwhelming and difficult to choose a car to drive.
However, the fact Forza gives its players an abundance of cars to pick from is a good problem to have, and one that Gran Turismo needs to offer its loyal fan base. People want choices, and a lot of the time, the car they drive goes hand in hand with their personality. If Gran Turismo wants the crown once again, they need to have more cars gamers can play with.
8 Gran Turismo Will Need More Tracks
Gran Turismo is notorious for having far too few tracks and course selections in its games. Although the tracks are beautifully rendered and have very realistic features, such as the mechanics and the shading in their designs, there aren’t many tracks for gamers to enjoy.
Forza has numerous track selections, and although they’re not as detailed or artistically driven as its competitor, they’re still phenomenally done and amazing to look at. The fact Forza can offer variety and still sustain a high level of detail proves that Gran Turismo will have to give their fans more tracks and courses to choose from.
7 Gran Turismo Only Caters To Racing Fanatics
Gran Turismo is a racing simulator that replicates real-life racing. As a result, they have to ensure everything is built to the most minimalist of details. Otherwise, it’s not a simulator; it’s just another racing game. Gamers know what they’re getting when they buy Gran Turismo; they’re getting a game that takes hours to master.
Some gamers may have a lot of fun with that style, but they’re in the minority, not the majority. Gran Turismo doesn’t have a lot of fun and exciting tracks to entice newer gamers, whereas Forza caters to new and serious gamers alike. If Gran Turismo wants to get back on top, they’ll have to take that into consideration.
6 Gran Turismo Needs To Have Better Customization Options
Gran Turismo doesn’t have a lot of customization options for the limited vehicle selections they have in the game. When players play Gran Turismo, they can only do certain things to make their car stand out, and the results aren’t that impressive.
On the other hand, Forza has several customization options for the numerous vehicle selections they offer. Racing games need to have full-blown customization options, even if they are racing simulations. Racers love to stand out and make their cars fit their style. It’s what race car drivers want and need in real life, and it’s the same principle in a video game as well.
5 Damage To Cars Needs To Be More Realistic In Gran Turismo
In Gran Turismo, a car can lose control, go off-road, smash into cars, walls, and barriers, and sustain minimal damage. This means they’re still in the race without adverse effects from a severe collision, and for a game that prides itself on realism, that’s a problem.
On the contrary, Forza rewards gamers for their precise handling in races, and if a racer loses control of their car, the car displays its damage, which also affects its drivability. Gran Turismo needs to add the same feature if it wants to incentivize gamers to get better and take staying on track more seriously.
4 The AI In Gran Turismo Needs To Be Smarter
When a gamer reaches a certain level in the game, the AI doesn’t get better as the gamer progresses. Players find themselves blowing past the AI in races, and sometimes overlapping them. Everyone wants to win and be successful, but when it’s as easy as it is in Gran Turismo, it doesn’t feel the same after a while.
Forza has the same issue when it comes to AI, so both games could work on that aspect. However, the difference in Forza is how the player can adjust the difficulty to match the player’s skill set. For now, if players want a challenge, they will have to go online.
3 Gran Turismo Will Need More In-Game Content
Gran Turismo is a great racing game. A lot of the content they have in their game is award-winning, and fans love it. However, that’s all it is: a racing game that includes pro and semi-pro simulations.
Forza has the same exact issue, but they also have an open world within its content. Players can drive around, get into street races, or just have fun, which is what gamers want sometimes. It’s not always about competition. If Gran Turismo wants to get ahead, they’re going to have to implement something to that effect.
2 Gran Turismo Needs To Have A Better Arcade Feature
The arcade feature in Gran Turismo doesn’t have a lot to offer. It’s just a bare-bones sample of what’s to come within the game. It offers a few selections for tracks and cars, and the player can play whatever is available without hurting their stats. It’s also an easy way to gain experience.
However, as convenient as gaining experience may be, it gets stale as time goes on, which is why Forza has an arcade feature that’s both extreme and entertaining. If Gran Turismo wants to reclaim the top spot, they’re going to have to make the arcade feature fun for gamers.
1 Gran Turismo Needs To Fix The Music In Their Games
Music isn’t usually a big deal when it comes to racing games. However, when it’s elevator music, it becomes problematic. Sadly, Gran Turismo has exactly that. They have it in the main menu and in their races, whereas Forza has music that sounds like it belongs on the Billboards 100 list.
All in all, both games are top-of-the-line racing games. Any gamer who decides to play one or the other will have tons of fun. Gran Turismo is for the gamer who is serious about their racing games, while Forza is for gamers who want to let loose. However, fans of either title can’t go wrong.
