A lot of movies are based on novels, such as Ready Player One. It is a sci-fi story about a boy named Wade and his friends trying to obtain control of the virtual world they spend their time in, the Oasis, by winning a contest left behind by its creator. The film adaptation changed a lot of things that happened in the book and made it even better.
Last year, a second novel, Ready Player Two, was released and a second movie is also in development. But due to the differences between the first book and film, things from Ready Player Two will also need to change.
10 The Concept Of ONI
In the first installment of the series, people gain access to the Oasis through virtual reality, making it so the players are controlling their own avatars. However, at the beginning of Ready Player Two, Wade found the ONI, which allowed him and anyone else that wore it to actually feel like they were inside the Oasis.
The ONI became an important part of the sequel’s plot so it should definitely be in the movie.
9 Anorak Becoming The Main Antagonist
James Halliday played an important role throughout the series. He created the Oasis, as well as his avatar, Anorak, who would greet those that made progress in his contest from the first book.
In the sequel, Anorak returned as the main antagonist, basically turning the main characters’ idol into their worst enemy. This was one of the best plot twists in the franchise and it would be a shame to not see it in the film.
8 Sorrento Breaks Out Of Prison
Nolan Sorrento was the main antagonist of Ready Player One. He was the leader of IOI and wanted to take control of the Oasis so he could become the most powerful and richest person in the world.
Though he only played a minor role in Ready Player Two, working for Anorak after the powerful avatar broke him out of prison, it would be great to see him return.
7 Og’s Disappearance
James Halliday had a partner, Ogden Morrow, who helped him create the Oasis. Years later, he helped Wade and his friends win the contest and became a friend of theirs.
In Ready Player Two, it seemed that he had disappeared until it was revealed that the antagonists had kidnapped him and forced him to help them achieve their goals. Though he needed to assist them, he didn’t want to and would betray them by the end of the novel.
6 L0hengrin & The Low Five
Parzival, Art3mis, Aech, Shoto, and Daito were known as the High Five, and in Ready Player Two, a group of friends that looked up to them was known as the L0w Five.
They helped the High Five out in the second book, especially L0hengrin, who assisted Wade at the beginning of the novel. Some fans of the book even wanted them to play a bigger role so it would be great if that could happen in the film.
5 The Flashbacks That Wade Has As Kira
One of the things that led to Halliday and Og’s friendship coming to an end was that Halliday was in love with Kira, Og’s wife. In the novels, she was a childhood friend of theirs that helped them create the Oasis. Though she wouldn’t come into their lives until Halliday and Og were already successful in the movie, she will surely be more involved in the sequel, especially due to how important her role was in the Ready Player Two book.
As Wade progresses throughout his journey, he has visions of him being her in a few important moments of her life. The movie will have to change what some of these memories are, but she should still be a vital character.
4 The Shard On Halcydonia
Og and Kira created Halcydonia, a fun and educational place inside the Oasis to help children. Wade spent a lot of time there when he was a kid and went there with his mother before she passed away. After that, he didn’t return until he needed to in order to obtain a shard.
Luckily, he wasn’t alone as his friends stood by his side and helped him confront his past. Halcydonia is one of the most unique locations inside of the Oasis, especially since it is an original place rather than being based on a movie or a video game, so it would be great to see how it looks in the movie.
3 The Role That Lord Of The Rings Played
One of the coolest moments in the film adaptation of Ready Player One that didn’t happen in the book was when the High Five went inside of The Shining.
Something similar happened in Ready Player Two, but instead of an iconic horror film, they went to the epic fantasy of The Lord of the Rings. Fantasy fans would surely enjoy watching Wade and his friends inside of one of the most important worlds of the genre.
2 The Battle Between Og & Anorak
Though Halliday and Ogden may have been friends in real life, at least when they were young, their avatars were enemies. At the end of Ready Player Two, Og and Anorak had an epic battle.
Though he was able to defeat the antagonist, Og died moments later. It would be awesome to see the creators of the Oasis battle in the final moments of their lives in the Ready Player Two movie.
1 Resurrection & Immortality
The best thing about ONI was revealed at the end of the book. Anyone that had ever used an ONI headset could be resurrected and cloned. Kira and Og were the first two characters to come back to life, followed by anyone else that could be. Wade and his friends cloned themselves, separating their real-life identities from their Oasis avatars.
Even Samantha, who hated the idea of the ONI throughout the book wore it so Art3mis could be her own person. These clones could also live forever, making it so Halliday was able to not only create his own world but also let those that lived in his world exist forever.
