Black Widow’s history at Marvel has always been rather complex and entertaining. She’s one of the best spies on the planet and has been working with the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. for years. She’s been alive for a very long time, with the Infinity Formula keeping her young. While she wasn’t always a hero, she has always been one of the best.
Like most Marvel characters, she does have some similarities with her Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart. Both of them have a rather complicated sense of morality and have worked hard to get where they are. However, there are lots of things about the MCU Black Widow that would drive the comic one crazy.
10 Black Widow Would Mock The MCU Widow Bite Gauntlets
Black Widow’s Widow Bite gauntlets are her most iconic weapon, allowing her to fire powerful energy blasts at her foes. They give her a perfect non-lethal ranged attack and allow her to stand with the Avengers against some powerful threats when the need arises. They’re a versatile, formidable weapon, and they’ve saved many lives.
MCU Black Widow’s Widow Bite gauntlets are basically glorified tasers, something that would amuse comic Natasha greatly. They’re basically useless against anyone invulnerable or with armor, and Natasha would have no problem mercilessly ribbing her counterpart about them.
9 She’d Find MCU’s Black Widow’s Shoddy Stealth Skills To Be Insulting
One of the hallmarks of being a spy is being sneaky. Black Widow has survived a lot of very tense situations because she has mastered the arts of stealth, allowing her to sneak in and out of just about anywhere. This isn’t really a skill MCU Black Widow has. In fact, her idea of stealth is wearing masks and pretending to be someone else.
She runs right at every enemy instead of outthinking and outmaneuvering them. While Black Widow would respect her MCU self for facing challenges head-on, she’d find her lack of stealth skills to be insulting to the name Black Widow.
8 MCU Black Widow Is Not A Swinger
Superheroes have many talents that don’t always scan with who they are, and one of Black Widow’s is her high flying style of getting around. The Widow Bite gauntlets aren’t just potent offensive weapons but also have rope launchers that let Black Widow swing like a spider. She’s used this method of locomotion effectively over the years, both in her sneaking and fighting.
MCU Black Widow’s gauntlets have similar capabilities, but she never uses them to swing around. Natasha would find this extremely inefficient, as not using everything to its utmost extent can get a spy killed.
7 She Wouldn’t Like How Chaste Her MCU Counterpart Is
Black Widow has had a lot of boyfriends. Natasha knows that life can end in a split second, especially in her line of work, so she lives life to the fullest. Nothing holds her back, and she’s had many affairs of the heart over the years. She has no problem getting into messy situations that might hurt her because at least she loved.
MCU Black Widow let what the Red Room did to her define her relationships. While she had no problem seducing targets, she barely allowed herself to enjoy the act of love. Black Widow would find this sort of attitude a waste.
6 She Wouldn’t Respect The Fact That Her MCU Self Went Into Hiding With Cap
Black Widow knows the value of laying low, but she also knows that it can be dangerous. This is what she would think of her counterpart’s actions after Captain America: Civil War. People still needed saving, and depriving the world of the Avengers just because it was illegal is something that comic Natasha would find cowardly.
She’d especially hate the way MCU Black Widow allowed Cap to hide for so long. Captain America is a potent symbol, and staying under the radar to not break laws is a waste. She would have spurred him to action long before the Black Order showed up, whereas her MCU counterpart just let him wallow.
5 She’d Think MCU Black Widow Was Lazy
Black Widow has changed a lot over the years, but she always kept busy. She’s been an Avenger, an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and she has had a lot of solo adventures and worked with many heroes. She decided to make up for the bad things she had done by working hard to save as many people as possible. Her work ethic defined her.
MCU Black Widow spent long periods of time just doing nothing. She let her role as an Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent define her instead of doing everything she could to save lives. Comic Natasha would find this lazy and not think highly of her other-self.
4 She Wouldn’t Think MCU Black Widow Was That Good Of A Fighter
Black Widow is well-armed, but she’s survived as long as she has because of her fighting style. She’s survived some heavy situations when her stealth and everything else failed her because of her martial arts prowess. She’s been alive for a long time and mastered many different fighting styles, making her a versatile and experienced combatant.
While there’s no doubt that MCU Black Widow is skilled, she’s basically an MMA fighter mixed with a luchador wrestler. It’s a good fighting style, but comic Black Widow would find it simplistic and easy to exploit.
3 She’d Hate Her MCU Self’s Terrible Sense Of Humor
Black Widow has no problem with humor, but she’s not personally about it. She can be funny, but she’s not going to quip too much. She’s a serious person, and besides, she’s worked with some of the funniest heroes around and knows that she can’t really compete with them. She leaves the humor to the professionals and does what she does best.
Pretty much the entirety of the MCU has the exact same kind of sarcastic, quippy sense of humor, and Black Widow would find her counterpart’s humor to be terrible, to say the least. She’d almost certainly remark about how they all basically copied Iron Man’s sense of humor to lesser effect.
2 She’d Think MCU Black Widow Was A Terrible Avengers Leader
Both Black Widows led the Avengers, but only one was actually good at it. Comic Black Widow led the team at a time when the group wasn’t at its most powerful, but she still did a very good job. She put her years of experience into play and was able to get her team through some tough scrapes thanks to everything she had learned.
MCU Black Widow took the team over by default when the rest of the team abandoned it after the Snap. She couldn’t hold the team together and seemed frazzled by her role as leader, pretty much just delegating responsibility to others. Comic Natasha would look down upon this immensely.
1 She’d Hate That MCU Black Widow Didn’t Liberate Yelena And The Red Room Sooner
Superheroes and dead families go hand in hand. Black Widow lost everyone she loved a very long time ago, which is why she loves her friends so much. If, for example, she had an adoptive family that she abandoned to defect, she would certainly use everything she had to free them and the other people who were tormented by the system that created her, especially if they were still alive.
This is why she would completely hate MCU Black Widow for ignoring not just the Red Room, but also Yelena for so long. MCU Black Widow could have brought the resources of her friends to bear and solved the problem, but she let it go until Yelena came to her. That’s something comic Black Widow would find completely unforgivable.
