10 Strongest Dragons In Skyrim, Ranked

[ad_1]

The protagonist of Skyrim is known as the Dragonborn, so it’s no surprise that dragons are among the most important entities in the game. Referred to as Dovah, these creatures are highly intelligent and overpowered, making them dangerous opponents. Dragons use their magical shouts, called Thu’um, for both offensive and defensive purposes.

Although the Dragonborn usually encounters unnamed dragons during playthroughs, there are more than a few named dragons in Skyrim. Many of them have comprehensive backstories that tie them to the overarching narrative. It’s important to note, however, that a dragon’s health (or total hit points) depends on the player’s character level, so their individual toughness will vary depending on when in a playthrough the Dragonborn encounters them.

10 Paarthurnax Was Once The Lieutenant Of Alduin Himself

One of the unavoidable elements of Skyrim’s main questline takes the Dragonborn to the Throat of the World to meet Paarthurnax, the de facto commander of the Greybeards of High Hrothgar.

Paarthurnax was once as belligerent and brutal as other dragons, particularly during the Merethic Era’s Dragon War when he served as Alduin’s second-in-command. Fortunately for the innocent people of Skyrim, he retires from his violent ways and prefers to spend most of his time immersed in meditation.

9 Odahviing Isn’t Especially Powerful As An Opponent, But He Is A Strong Ally

Odahviing begins his character arc opposing the Dragonborn, having devoted himself to Alduin’s violent methods. However, he can be trapped on the Dragonsreach terrace with the help of the Dragonrend Shout. After this encounter, Odahviing begins to change his allegiance. He isn’t especially powerful, and the Dragonborn doesn’t really need to engage him in combat. Odahviing eventually offers his eternal assistance to the Dragonborn, an offer not to be taken lightly.

8 Mirmulnir Is The Dragonborn’s First Real Test

Mirmulnir’s Health ranges from 905 to 3071 and his attacks are stronger than many of his siblings. Jarl Balgruuf, in his bid to rid the world of dragons, assigns a small platoon of guards led by Irileth the Housecarl to take care of Mirmulnir near the beginning of Skyrim’s main story.

As such, he is the first dragon soul absorbed by the Dragonborn in the main quest, cementing their position as the most significant living being in Skyrim.

7 Kruziikrel Is Of No Ordinary Dragon Stock

Kruziikrel can be found in the Dragonborn DLC as a tertiary antagonist. The player first sees him during the final stages of the “At the Summit of Apocrypha” questline, although he mostly just flies around the place without interacting with any of the relevant characters.

Given Kruziikrel’s presence in Hermaeus Mora’s Oblivion Plane, it can be assumed that he’s of no ordinary dragon stock. Unfortunately, he only has only one role to play in Skyrim‘s story: to be consumed by Miraak in the final battle against the Dragonborn.

6 Krosulhah Supports Miraak In The Fight Against The Last Dragonborn

Another character from the Dragonborn DLC, Krosulhah can be encountered around the Dwemer ruins of Nchardak right after the player acquires the “Black Book: Epistolary Acumen,” an essential quest item on the path to defeating Miraak.

Krosulhah threatens the Last Dragonborn, claiming that they have no chance of taking down the First Dragonborn, before unleashing torrents of Frost Breath. Luckily, this dragon can be pacified with the Gol Hah Dov, or Bend Will, shout.

5 Naaslaarum & Voslaarum Are Simultaneous Opponents For The Dragonborn

Naaslaarum and Voslaarum are Dawnguard DLC Revered dragons who always appear together in the icy gorge known as the Forgotten Vale. Despite their emergence from the frozen basin of an unnamed lake in the region, these two dragons generate fire.

Naaslaarum and Voslaarum are unique among Skyrim’s dragons in that they often camouflage themselves underwater, making it harder for the player to spot them. They can also utilize the Gaan Lah Haas, or Drain Vitality, shout in order to strip the Dragonborn of health, stamina, and magicka.

4 Durnehviir Is The Only Undead Dragon In Skyrim

Skeletal dragons pop up every now and then over the course of Skyrim’s storyline, but Durnehviir is the only true undead dragon. He is eternally bound to the Soul Cairn after making a misguided deal with the mysterious Ideal Masters.

This dragon’s physical form is completely different from every other breed in Skyrim, and he has access to the Soul Cairn Summon, one of the few shouts the Dragonborn can’t learn. His health is fixed at an impressive 1821, and Durnehviir can give the player the incredibly powerful and useful Soul Tear shout.

3 Vulthuryol’s Health Is Fixed At An Astonishing 3071

With his health at an astonishing 3071, Vulthuryol is extremely strong, possibly stronger than Alduin himself. He dwells deep within Blackreach, the endless subterranean capital of the once-great Dwemer civilization.

Although he doesn’t fly during his fight with the Dragonborn, Vulthuryol’s fire attacks can be devastating if his opponent’s health is dwindling and there aren’t any Restoration Potions around. However, higher-level players can easily defeat Vulthuryol in a battle of attrition.

2 Alduin Is The Final Boss Of Skyrim’s Main Questline

Alduin is the final villain in Skyrim’s main questline. He is the creator of dragon civilization as well as the founder of the divine Nordic pantheon. He is terrifying to look at, even if it doesn’t take all that much effort to defeat him in the final battle in Sovngarde.

Alduin’s fall isn’t as impressive as some of his brethren, perhaps because the Dragonborn is technically assisted by Felldir, Gormlaith, and Hakon. This divine dragon employs Frost Breath and Fire Breath and is the only one capable of using both in the base game.

1 Sahrotaar Is The Most Threatening Dragon In The World Of Skyrim

Miraak, the main antagonist of the Dragonborn DLC, is a mess of contradictions that turns him into a rather fascinating and confusing character. His personal mount is the serpentine dragon Sahrotaar, a beast whose origins are lost to the same mists of history as his master Miraak’s. Like Alduin, Sahrotaar is able to manipulate both Fire and Frost Breath, which – when combined with his 3565 health – makes him far more threatening than any other dragon in Skyrim.
