JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has many creative and unique Stands within its universe. Whether controlled by JoJo’s heroes or villains, they are often used as weapons and always substantially move the plot forward in ways that would otherwise be impossible. Ever since Stardust Crusaders, they have defined the tone of the series.
That said, there are many Stand pairs that have extremely similar abilities. Examining pairs of similar Stands demonstrates that, no matter how creative Hirohiko Araki gets, the series’ ingenuity has its limits. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has shown fans some truly impressive Stands, but several share nearly identical abilities.
10 Goo Goo Dolls & Little Feet Are Both Villainous Stands That Shrink Their Opponents
Goo Goo Dolls and Little Feet were the Stands of Gwess and Formaggio. They were both relatively weak when engaged in one-on-one fights. Instead, Gwess and Formaggio preferred to shrink opponents before readying the killing blow — a cowardly yet undeniably clever strategy.
Notably, Gwess’ ability proved to be substantially stronger since it affected its subject in a matter of seconds. By contrast, Narancia had minutes to identify and react against Formaggio’s Stand before fully succumbing to its reduction. Gwess was so powerful that she nearly defeated a main JoJo by herself.
9 Star Platinum & The World Were Noted For Their Similarities
Star Platinum and the World have so many similarities that it was directly commented on in the series’ narrative. Jotaro discovered that he could stop time during his encounter with DIO, albeit not for nearly as long. Both are also known for throwing flurries of punches at super speed.
The Stand’s similarities could possibly be due to their users’ shared lineage. Since DIO uses Jonathan’s body as a vessel, it makes sense that his Stand could be partially influenced by the Joestar bloodline. It means that not only would DIO have stolen Jonathan’s life and fortune, but he also took a time-stopping ability nascent in the Joestar bloodline.
8 Horus & White Album Both Unleashed Punishing Torrents Of Ice
White Album and Horus were both villainous Stands that provided a mastery over ice. They were used by Ghiaccio and Pet Shop, both of whom managed to balance incredible offense with impervious defense. Ghiacchio’s Stand came with an impregnable suit of armor that reflected any projectiles launched at him, a useful skill for outlasting a fight.
Pet Shop’s avian physiology allowed him to bombard enemies from the sky and unleash such great torrents of ice that they could rip entire cars in half. He was one of the few villains to cause substantial and permanent injury to a hero of Stardust Crusaders.
7 Marilyn Manson & Osiris Were Both Debt Collectors
Osiris and Marilyn Manson were both Stands that depended on their user’s ability to defeat others in games. Although completely useless by their own merits, they were unstoppable when enforcing the terms of a bet that both parties officially agreed to.
After defeating an opponent, Osiris could compress their souls into card chips. Manson’s power was slightly more complex as it retrieved the value agreed upon by a victim through any means necessary. If they didn’t have the funds to honor the bet, Manson took their organs instead.
6 Aqua Necklace & Geb Were Both Watery Infiltrators
Aqua Necklace and Geb were Stands belonging to Diamond is Unbreakable‘s Anjuro and Stardust Crusaders‘ N’Doul. They were fundamentally identical since both were small, water-based minions that unleashed attacks more devastating than their small size would suggest.
However, there is a critical difference between them: Geb was a long-ranged Stand, whereas Aqua Necklace was not. As a result, Anjuro quickly became exposed after Josuke captured his Stand and shook it. His crimes earned one of the worst fates in the series’ history.
5 The Emperor & Sex Pistols Are Both Firearms
The Emperor and Sex Pistols Stands belonged to Hol Horse and Mista, respectively. Both assailed enemies with heatsinking attacks and provided a straightforward answer to many of the series’ most challenging opponents. Despite the Stands’ many profound similarities, there are still enough differences to distinguish them as unique. Hol Horse’s Stand is a gun that creates its own bullets, whereas Mista’s are bullets that require a gun. While this might suggest that Mista is slightly weaker than his villainous counterpart, Sex Pistols has an optimal maximum range.
4 Yellow Temperance & Notorious B.I.G. Are Both Destructive, Pliable Substances
Notorious B.I.G. and Yellow Temperance were the Stands of Carne and Rubber Soul, respectively. Both balanced formidable defense with pernicious offense in order to push JoJo’s heroes to their utmost limit. The slightest exposure to their nigh-indestructible bodies put opponents in grave peril and prevented them from attacking aggressively.
Both Stands were also defeated by water, whether from being smothered or having their motion-based detection system thrown off-balance. Despite their many similarities, Notorious B.I.G is stronger than Yellow Temperance since it can survive beyond the grave.
3 Magician’s Red & Killer Queen Were Both Explosive Stands That Were Viable In Close Quarters
Magician’s Red and Killer Queen were Avdol and Yoshikage Kira’s Stands. Their similarities stem from their ability to produce immense amounts of fire and their decidedly animalistic features. Although most formidable at mid-range, both Stands demonstrated an aptitude for melee combat. This was proven through Avdol’s battle against Jotaro and Kira’s fight with Josuke.
There are two tangible differences between them: Killer Queen can only attack after turning something into a bomb whereas Magician’s Red is instantaneous. Furthermore, Killer Queen’s Sheer Heart Attack provides a second degree of utility that Avdol cannot match.
2 Stone Free & Sticky Fingers Can Both Unravel Themselves To Obliterate Enemies
Sticky Fingers and Stone Free were Stands belonging to Bucciarati and Jolyne respectively. Both were defined through their ability to unravel their bodies into different parts, which unlocked creative ways to solve problems and take enemies off guard.
Similar to Avdol and Kira, both Stands are capable melee fighters that benefit most at mid-range. Their only difference is that Sticky Fingers is able to unravel his opponents, whereas Stone Free cannot. However, Jolyne can unwind her Stand to such lengths that she was able to create a shield made from thread.
1 Gold Experience & Crazy Diamond Are Both Healing-Based Brawling Stands
Josuke’s Crazy Diamond and Giorno’s Gold Experience work much in the same way. Both are extremely efficient in melee combat — as proven against opponents like Kira and Bucciarati — and serve as capable healers. Notably, they mend wounds in different ways.
Gold Experience creates new life from inanimate objects, whereas Crazy Diamond simply puts whatever was broken back together. Despite seeming nearly identical, Giorno’s Stand is stronger than Josuke’s since he can use it to heal himself. This became irrefutably true after he evolved Gold Experience into a requiem Stand during the battle with Diavolo.
