Jujutsu Kaisen made its manga debut in March 2018 and its anime adaptation was later released in October 2020. Since then, the franchise has skyrocketed in popularity and been dubbed by the masses as one of the greatest new-gen shonen series.
Season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen wrapped up in March 2021 and ended after the Death Painting arc, where Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara investigated strange disappearances at Megumi’s middle school. The series finished on a high note, showing the first years push past their limits, which left fans keen for more action. The good news is, anime-only fans have many incredible chapters of the manga — which recently returned to the pages of Shonen Jump after a hiatus — to catch up on.
10 Gojo And Geto Are Entrusted To Safely Escort The Star Plasma Vessel
Anime-only fans who have yet to read the manga are in for a treat, because the Gojo’s Past arc begins almost immediately after the Death Painting arc. The main premises of this arc follows Gojo at Tokyo Jujutsu High as a second-year student. Together with classmate Suguru Geto, Gojo is entrusted to escort the Star Plasma Vessel, Riko Amanai, to Master Tengen.
However, the mission becomes far more complex as the Time Vessel Association, the Star Religious Group that worships Master Tengen, hires Toji Zenin, the infamous Sorcerer Killer and Megumi’s father, to assassinate Riko as they believe she is an impure merger. The entire arc is incredibly gripping and an absolute must-read.
9 Suguru Geto’s True Feelings Are Revealed
The manga reveals that Suguru Geto, Gojo’s former classmate, developed a deep hatred for non-sorcerers. In fact, he hated them so much that he would often refer to them as monkeys and spray himself to disinfect the “monkey stench.” He felt that sorcerers were the superior race and that in order better humanity’s next stage of evolution, non-sorcerers should be eradicated.
His descent into darkness starts shortly after a conversation he has with Yuki Tsukumo, where she explains that she’s figured out two ways to stop the creation of cursed spirits, one of which was living in a world where non-sorcerers didn’t exist. A matter of days later, Geto is sent on a mission to a village that wants him to kill two girls ostracized for their ability to see curses, so he kills the entire village of civilians instead.
8 Toji Fushiguro Made His Debut
Toji Fushiguro, previously known as Toji Zenin, was a former member of the Zenin family. In addition to being the infamous Sorcerer Killer and Megumi’s father, Toji was born with superior physical prowess, and many elite jujutsu practitioners couldn’t match his strength.
Toji made his introduction in the Gojo’s Past arc and immediately made an impression on the fandom, particularly when he was pitted against Satoru Gojo in combat. In fact, Toji was so strong that he initially won during their first battle — and seemingly left Gojo for dead.
7 Yuta Okkotsu Makes His First Main Series Appearance
Yuta Okkotsu is a second-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. He was also previously a special grade cursed human who was haunted by his late childhood friend, Rika Orimoto. Yuta Okkotsu is the main protagonist in Jujutsu Kaisen’s prequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, but his debut in the main series was certainly prominent.
Although the elders of jujutsu society tasked him with a mission to dispose of Itadori and an epic battle commenced between the pair, Yuta later reveals that his mentor, Satoru Gojo, had entrusted him watch over Yuji, and luckily for Yuji, Yuta chose to follow Gojo’s wishes instead.
6 Kento Nanami’s Death Broke The Hearts Of Many
The entire Shibuya Incident arc had fans on the edge of their seats from the start. Many shocking events took place throughout this arc, and one which broke the hearts of many was the death of Yuji’s mentor Kento Nanami.
Nanami died at the hands of Mahito, and Mahito made sure that Itadori arrived just in time to witness it. Before his death, Nanami looked at Itadori, smiled, and said “You’ve got it from here.” The entire fandom unanimously agreed at that moment that Jujutsu Kaisen lost one of its greatest characters.
5 Nobara’s Fate Was Left On A Cliffhanger
Nobara was impacted by Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration, however, rather than becoming a victim to this horrific technique, Nobara decided to remove her eye and end her own life so she wouldn’t turn into a monster.
Whether she’s actually dead or not is a lingering question in the series because her wounds were treated by Arata Nitta. Nitta then explains to Yuji that Nobara isn’t breathing and has no pulse, but because it hadn’t been long since she suffered her injuries, there isn’t a zero percent chance that she’ll survive.
4 Gojo Is Sealed By The Prison Realm
The alliance made by Mahito and Pseudo-Geto between cursed spirits and curse users knew that the only way for them to take over the world was to get Satoru Gojo out of the way. And after one of the greatest battles that Jujutsu Kaisen has seen so far, the unthinkable actually happened: Gojo was sealed by the Prison Realm.
Considering the incredible fight between Gojo and the alliance in the lead-up to this moment, his capture came as a shock to fans. But in pure Gojo fashion, he sarcastically tells Pseudo-Geto that he’s tired of listening to him and to just get on with sealing him.
3 Megumi Meets His Father Toji
During the Shibuya Incident arc, Ogami, a cursed user working with Pseudo-Geto, used a seance technique to turn her grandson into Toji Fushiguro. However, Toji’s soul became far too powerful, took over her grandson’s body, and killed Ogami in the process.
After this, Toji finds Megumi, who was trapped inside Dagon’s Domain Expansion alongside Nanami, Maki, and Naobito. Once Toji exorcises the curse and releases the Domain, he and Megumi crash through a window and land on the street. Megumi didn’t recognize Toji as his father, and whether Toji recognized Megumi remains an open question.
2 Megumi Becomes The Head Of The Zenin Clan
After Naobito, the 26th head of the Zenin clan, died during the Shibuya Incident, Megumi was named the 27th head of the family.
Although Naoya Zenin was supposed to become the next head of the clan, an alternate clause to Naobito’s will meant Megumi took the title. This was because his will included a written agreement signed by Toji Fushiguro which stated that in the case of Gojo’s death or mental incapacitation, Megumi was to be welcomed into the clan, become the head of the family, and have all assets passed onto him.
1 Maki Slaughters The Zenin Clan
Maki had been abused by the Zenin clan for years, and after her sister Mai sacrificed herself to save her, she unleashed her full power in order to take out the entire clan.
The sequence of events followed Maki first killing her father and then proceeding to kill the pillars of the clan. After four epic chapters, it was revealed that Maki ended up slaughtering every last one of them.
