Since its launch in 1996, Pokémon has expanded the Pokédex from the initial 151 entries to now totaling over 800. The world of Pokémon is ever-expanding, as new species are discovered with every generation. Of course, with the number of monsters nearing a thousand, not every single one can be a heavy hitter like Tyranitar or Charizard.
There are many Pokémon that are not very strong at all. In fact, there are some that are even weaker than humans in terms of pure strength. However, even the most feeble creatures out there are not to be underestimated. Some can evolve into truly terrifying creatures.
10 Abra Flees Every Battle
Abra is a small Pokémon that doesn’t do much. It’s small enough to be cuddled with or to sit on its trainer’s lap. The only move it knows is Teleport, which it will use at the beginning of every battle to escape.
If a trainer manages to catch one before it teleports away, it serves little purpose until it evolves into Kadabra, when it can begin learning psychic attacks. It can become even more powerful by evolving into Alakazam, at which point it is considered one of the most powerful Pokémon in the series.
9 Unown Really Serve Only One Purpose
When it was first introduced, Unown was a mysterious Pokémon. It doesn’t have any particularly powerful attacks, and it does not evolve. However, the lore surrounding these creatures is certainly worth exploring.
Every Unown is modeled after a different letter of the alphabet, as well as an exclamation point and a question mark. These weak creatures do not serve much purpose other than being used to spell out words. In the anime, they are best known for their role in the third film, Spell of the Unown: Entei, in which their ability to create illusions is central to the plot.
8 Shedinja Is Hard To Hit But Still Weak
Modeled after the exoskeleton of a cicada, Shedinja is a fascinating Pokémon. In the games, it has only 1 HP no matter how high it is leveled, but its ability, Wonder Guard, prevents it from being hit by any attack that is not super effective. Of course, it’s not too difficult to find a Pokémon that can hit Shedinja since it’s weak to five different types.
With its small stature and low hit points, Shedinja would not stand a chance when going up against any capable human. It is just too weak.
7 Bidoof’s Main Use Is For HMs
Bidoof is rather notorious within the Pokémon fandom, but not for its strength. Rather, it is one of the most useful Pokémon due to the fact that once it evolves into Bibarel, it can be used for a wide variety of HMs, which are used to traverse the overworld. It can learn Cut, Surf, Strength, Waterfall, Rock Climb, Rock Smash, Dive, and Whirpool, depending on which game is being played.
Other than that, there is not much that is remarkable about Bidoof. It does not learn any strong attacks, and even after it evolves into Bibarel, it still remains weaker than most humans.
6 Slakoth Is Always Slacking Off
There isn’t much to be said about Slakoth, since its design is inspired by the sloth. It also behaves similarly to its real-world counterpart in that it is rather lazy, and spends most of the day sleeping. It does not learn any particularly powerful moves and is not seen as much of a threat to anyone.
However, it can evolve into Vigoroth, and later Slaking, in which case it is not to be underestimated. While Slaking is still a lazy, lounging Pokémon, its ability to store energy and release it makes it a force to be reckoned with.
5 Metapod Only Increases Its Defense
Metapod is the second evolution of Caterpie, a worm-like Pokémon. As such, it is, appropriately, a cocoon-like Pokémon. Because of this, it is also one of the weakest attackers, while having a high defense. While Metapod can inherit attacks from evolving, its most well-known move is Harden.
Overall, Metapod is not a very useful Pokémon, and while it has a great defense, it is certainly much weaker than any human trainer. However, once it evolves into Butterfree, it’s a different story.
4 Wimpod Is Afraid Of Everything
As its name implies, Wimpod is a fearful, skittish Pokémon. It is easily terrified and will spit venom if threatened. Despite that defense mechanism, it remains one of the weakest creatures in the Pokédex. Despite its fragile nature, it is extremely curious and will try to get closer to other Pokémon or people.
Wimpod does not learn any useful moves and is mostly useless until it evolves into Golisopod. Its evolution is a large arthropod that is sure to terrify any opponent.
3 Rattata’s Only Strength Is Its Bite
Rattata is one of the most famous Pokémon among the original 151 Pokédex entries. It’s small and cute, so it certainly makes a good pet, but when compared to humans, it remains one of the weakest creatures out there.
Rattata is not particularly useful in battle due to its inability to learn any powerful attacks until it evolves into Raticate. Until then, Rattata is simply a small rat with an impressive bite, thanks to its large teeth. Other than that, it does not have much going for it in terms of overall strength.
2 Magikarp Splashes Around
Every Pokémon fan knows Magikarp. It is the fish that only knows the move Splash, which does not do anything. Magikarp’s inability to prove useful in any way makes it one of the weakest Pokémon in the series. There is even a running joke in the original anime where James is scammed into buying a Magikarp. He continues trying to find ways to use it, but it never works out.
However, as most trainers knows, Magikarp eventually evolves into Gyarados. This giant serpent, dragon-like Pokémon is a terrifying creature that anyone should be afraid to go up against.
1 Feebas Is Even Weaker Than Magikarp
Like Magikarp, Feebas is a feeble fish Pokémon without much use until it evolves. Feebas can learn some damaging attacks, but not anything particularly powerful. The only move it knows initially is Splash. However, unlike Magikarp, Feebas does not evolve into Milotic by simply reaching a specific level.
Evolving Feebas requires a bit more work, as it needs a high Beauty condition before it becomes useful. Until then, it remains one of the weakest Pokémon there is, and since it needs specific criteria, it is even weaker than Magikarp.
