Hawkeye is one of the longest-serving members of the Avengers, and along with his inclusion in the MCU, has become one of the most recognizable characters in the Marvel Universe. And while he may not have the powers of Thor, the ferocity of the Hulk, the genius of Iron Man, or any other superpowers at all, what Hawkeye lacks in power he makes up for in charm.
As a result, the archer has a long list of romantic interests. And while some of these relationships have been more serious than others, they certainly have all impacted Clint Barton in different ways. Barton is certainly by no means a complicated man, but he seems to be on in his romantic endeavors, as he is constantly moving from relationship to relationship. Even though he has perfect precision with a bow and arrow, Clint Barton is certainly no Cupid.
10 Janet Van Dyne Was An Original Avenger
A founding member of the Avengers, Janet Van Dyne has been a part of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for decades. Originally the wife of Hank Pym, another founding member known under monikers, Hank and Janet would eventually divorce after a strained marriage that was only worsened by their time on the Avengers. After both would take time off from the team, Janet would eventually return to the team.
While she was back on the team, Janet began a short-lived fling with Hawkeye. Their attraction was quick and passionate. Their fling would eventually come to an end, and shortly thereafter, Hawkeye was a victim of the Scarlet Witch’s mental breakdown, dying in an attack on Avengers Mansion by the Kree Armada.
9 Jessica Drew Put Hawkeye In His Place
Jessica Drew was another victim of the Skrull’s plan to infiltrate the human race, meaning she spent many years off-world, before returning to Earth. When she was found to be alive, she was shunned by many, as the Queen of the Skrulls had chosen to make her the face of the Skrull Invasion. Despite this, she still joined the Avengers and became a welcome member of the team, where she started a relationship with Hawkeye.
While they were together, Jessica and Clint went through many speedbumps, especially after Clint slept with another woman. The two Avengers would try to reconcile their differences, and would eventually break up. Despite their short but passionate relationship, it was clear that Clint had very strong feelings for Jessica, but perhaps wasn’t ready for the same level of commitment at the time.
8 Black Widow Has Always Been Close to Hawkeye
Probably Hawkeye’s most iconic relationship is his friendship with Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow. Originally partnering up when Hawkeye was a wanted criminal and Widow was a Soviet spy, the two teamed up to steal technology from Iron Man, only for the Russian Romanoff to desert Hawkeye. Since then, they’ve found their way back into each other’s lives, becoming partners in the field.
Clint and Natasha’s history has been well-documented, and the Black Widow ranks as one of Clint’s most trusted friends. Though their romantic interest in each other has sparked from time to time, it has often fizzled out quickly thereafter. And while she may not be keen to admit it, it is obvious that Romanoff sees Barton as one of her most trusted confidantes, though most times she may see him as a nuisance first.
7 Mockingbird Was His First Serious Love
Another one of Hawkeye’s iconic relationships, Bobbi Morse a.k.a Mockingbird was the Archer’s wife for a long period of time. After the couple first got together in the 1980s, they became iconic partners in crime, before Bobbi was killed in 1993. She would later resurface during the Secret Invasion event of the 2000s, where it was revealed that she had been replaced by a Skrull.
Hawkeye and Mockingbird then would rekindle their relationship, with Mockingbird joining the Avengers again for a time, but after the two realized that too much time had passed, they agreed to divorce and go their separate ways. Bobbi and Clint have still managed to keep their relationship on relatively good terms, with their bond being unquestionable.
6 Moonstone Was A Short Fling
Karla Sofen, better known as the villain Moonstone, has been a member of the Masters of Evil, the Thunderbolts, and Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers. Originally a member of the Masters of Evil, Sofen was recruited for the Thunderbolts, a team of villains that was masquerading as heroes after most of the planet’s heroes had disappeared during the Onslaught event.
Inspired by the team, Hawkeye would eventually leave the Avengers to join the Thunderbolts temporarily. As a former wanted criminal, Hawkeye wanted to help legitimize the Thunderbolts, and soon started a romantic relationship with Moonstone.
5 Echo Helped Clint After He Returned From The Dead
Maya Lopez is an associate of Matt Murdock, also known as Echo. When Captain America needed someone to go undercover in Japan to spy on the workings of the Silver Samurai, Murdock recommended Maya Lopez, who would go on to adapt the mantle of Ronin, the master-less samurai. Sometime later, when Clint Barton mysteriously returned from the dead, he found himself lost in his purpose, and after the New Avengers recruited him to help rescue Maya Lopez in Japan, he adopted the Ronin persona for himself.
After the Avengers rescued Lopez from the clutches of the Hand, she told Clint to keep the Ronin costume, saying it had already helped her and that he clearly needed more guidance. The two then shared an intimate moment, and while they never became an official couple, their bond represented Clint finding himself once he returned to the land of the living.
4 Scarlet Witch Has A Complicated Relationship with Clint
Wanda Maximoff is an incredibly complicated woman, to say the least. And as a result, many of her relationships are equally as complicated. Her relationship with Hawkeye is no different, with the two of them having a very extensive history as Avengers, with both of them joining the team as part of “Cap’s Kooky Quartet.” However, their relationship took a big change when the Scarlet Witch had a mental breakdown, killing Hawkeye in the process.
After Hawkeye was mysteriously revived, he went searching for Wanda, finding her in a town near Mount Wundagore, where they shared an intimate moment before they went their separate ways. While their relationship has never been properly defined, the connection between Wanda Maximoff and Clint Barton is undeniable.
3 Kate Bishop Is Clint’s Friend And Partner
Make no mistake, Kate Bishop’s relationship with Clint Barton isn’t romantic in any sense of the word. And it is the fact that the Young Avenger’s bond with Barton is purely platonic that makes it so much more important. After Hawkeye was believed dead, Kate Bishop took up the mantle after displaying a fantastic for archery, and after having the blessing of Captain America himself. Once Barton returned from the dead, Bishop became his pupil-turned partner.
Clint’s respect for Kate knows no bounds, and he completely considers Kate as much as a Hawkeye as he is. The two understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and provide a support system as they both understand better than anyone the sacrifices they have to make in their specific line of work.
2 In The Ultimate Universe, Hawkeye Was Married To Laura Barton
In the Ultimate Marvel universe, Hawkeye was a member of the Ultimates, the universe’s equivalent to the Avengers. And when he wasn’t busy defending the world, Hawkeye managed to build a beautiful family with his wife, Laura Barton. The only one of the Ultimates who seemed to have a stable life, Hawkeye was a devoted family man, and with the help of Nick Fury, made sure that his family was fully protected at all times and were able to still maintain normal lives.
Unfortunately, their peaceful life was torn to shreds after a plot to destroy the team was hatched by enemies of America. Hawkeye’s family was attacked in their home, with all but Hawkeye brutally murdered. After the death of his wife and kids, Hawkeye would never be the same, becoming more ruthless, deadly, and also reckless in the field.
1 Night Nurse Was Clint’s Most Recent Relationship
Linda Carter was the most recent of Hawkeye’s long list of paramours in Matthew Rosenberg’s Hawkeye: Freefall miniseries. An incredibly underappreciated member of the superhero community, Linda Carter has helped the Avengers and other superheroes countless times as the Night Nurse, operating a clinic for wounded heroes.
Despite having a good relationship, Clint and Linda’s hopes for love were dashed by Clint’s obsessive pursuit of Parker Robbins, the crime boss known as the Hood. Over the course of the series, Clint fell into a pattern of lying to Linda and the other people in his life in order to pose as Ronin so he could take down the Hood, isolating Linda and causing her to break up with him.
