The Teen Titans cartoon has been a fan favorite for many years, even after its cancellation. The series based on the classic superhero team introduced many to the DC universe and dealt with mature themes that allowed the writers to take characters in new and interesting directions.
While the Teen Titans themselves are center-stage for the series, the story was heavily supported by the wide and amazing cast of villains. Some followed their comic counterparts, and others were reinvented for the series to either match with the style of the series, or fit into a particular storyline.
10 Slade Tortured The Teen Titans Even After Death
The primary antagonist for most of Teen Titans, Slade is the villain that most fans would remember off the bat. Matching surprisingly well with his comic self, Slade was a confident and capable killer who was smart enough to counter the Teen Titans at every turn.
His only major change was his occupation. Slade was changed from a hired mercenary to a supervillain who desired power and control, even pursuing Trigon near the end of the series. Another great change to Slade’s character was his control over Terra. Slade was changed to be a boss rather than the comic’s far more predatory approach.
9 Trigon Was The Endgame
A villain that was teased numerous times through Teen Titans, Trigon was always considered to be a major threat to the series should he ever enter the human realm. As Raven’s father, Trigon was introduced as a massive magical powerhouse who was constantly trying to gain control of his daughter’s mind in order to open a gateway to the human world.
He was so incredibly dangerous and powerful that even his mere presence in the human world warped the fabric of reality.
8 Mad Mod Made Them Feel Powerless
Mad Mod was a unique villain for Teen Titans. Unlike villains like Cinderblock or Mammoth, Mod’s plans never involved a direct conflict. His most common scheme was to trap the Teen Titans into an assortment of illusions and mazes to imprison them. With plans like these, the Teen Titans would feel powerless, and their amazing abilities would be inconsequential. Though they would always come out on top, Mod’s plans forced the Teen Titans to think outside of the box and improvise.
7 Brother Blood Was A Master Manipulator
Brother Blood was heavily changed from his comic counterpart. What was once a vampiric cult leader, who consumed the blood of innocents to gain power became the leader of a massive technological terrorist organization obsessed with becoming perfect. His most notable action was when he reconstructed his human body to match with that of Cyborg’s, believing that the path to human perfection came from the elimination of the human body. Blood manipulated Cyborg to gain the designs to his cybernetics and almost defeated the Teen Titans with relative ease.
6 Uehara Daizo Worked Behind The Scenes
Originating in the feature-length animated film, Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo, Uehara Daizo was the main antagonist who kept his criminal actions hidden by maintaining his position as a detective for the Tokyo police force. After he captured and imprisoned the villain Brushogun, he used the villain’s powers to create more and more supervillains to terrorize the city. What made Daizo so dangerous was the fact that he could use his position in law enforcement to stay close to the villains’ activity without ever being suspected.
5 The Brotherhood Of Evil Almost Destroyed The Teen Titans
The Brotherhood of Evil first began as a different superhero team’s villains, but soon migrated over to the Teen Titans after a brief encounter. Originally met through the Teen Titans’ cooperation with the Doom Patrol, The Brain believed that the Teen Titans were a much greater threat to their organization. So, he dispatched Madame Rouge to attack the Titan’s expanding team. Rouge proved to be the most dangerous member of the Brotherhood as she easily overpowered the Titan’s powerhouses like Kid Flash, Wildebeest, and Hotspot.
4 Red X Still Evades Them
Red X initially began as an undercover identity for Robin to infiltrate Slade’s operation, which the rest of the Teen Titans were completely unaware of. However, when Red X resurfaced, Robin assured the team that it was not him. Whoever undertook the identity was not only capable of evading the Teen Titans but completely avoided showing their identity. The episode ended without Red X ever being unmasked. Since Teen Titans was canceled, the identity of the new Red X has never been revealed but remains a hot topic for fans.
3 The H.I.V.E. Five Were Always An Archenemy
The H.I.V.E. Five was the antithesis of the Teen Titans and would regularly come into conflict with them. Notable characters such as the hulking Mammoth, genius Gizmo, and fan-favorite Jinx became recurring characters.
Supported by the terrorist organization known as H.I.V.E., they were some of Brother Blood’s best students. They were often dispatched by Blood to carry out his wishes in the outside world, and this would lead into conflict with the Teen Titans in their base of Jump City.
2 Blackfire Sought To Break The Group From Within
Though Blackfire didn’t begin as a villain, she fell into the villain role with the goal to destroy her sister Starfire after her initial introduction. At first, she attempted to use her sister as a scapegoat for her crimes across the galaxy. Later, she would return as the new queen of their home world, Tamaran, to use her position to marry of her sister and gain a powerful jewel. However, she never seems to target the remaining members of the team, and only ever targets Starfire in her obsessive quest to beat her.
1 Terra Was The Most Dangerous Villain Of All
Terra was the most dangerous enemy the Teen Titans encountered because she so easily gained their trust. Terra was a superhuman recruited by Slade to infiltrate their team and exploit their weaknesses. A storyline based on the Judas Contract storyline from the comics, Terra used her disguise as a helpless and confused superhuman to manipulate the team into revealing their weaknesses. Terra’s story would make many twists and turns throughout her life in the series, but she began her life as a very dangerous enemy.
