10 Marvel Catastrophes That Could Be The Next MCU Snap

[ad_1]

With the infamous Snap, the Marvel Cinematic Universe shocked everyone—from its characters to its audience. Thanos’s success in his genocidal plan wiped out half the universe’s population through the power of the Infinity Gauntlet. After Avengers: Endgame, the Snap was reversed and Thanos defeated.

But that doesn’t mean the Avengers and their allies should rest on their laurels. Marvel Comics has many other threats and catastrophes that are just as deadly as the Infinity Gauntlet. Numerous villains are waiting in the shadows, and their actions could lead to the next Snap.

10 Dormammu’s Departure May Have Been Temporary

Dormammu glares at Strange

Marvel’s Phase Four has been leaning on the concept of the Multiverse. Starting from Disney+ series like Loki and What If…? to movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2, the MCU is exploring this idea more and more. But certain Multiverse villains have already made their appearance. Doctor Strange’s villain, Dormammu, planned to bring the Dark Dimension to Earth, but the Sorcerer Supreme was able to stop him with the help of the Time Stone.

While he may be unable to return as long as Strange remains Earth’s guardian, Strange is no longer the Sorcerer Supreme as he died in the Snap. As a result, Dormammu may very well still be a threat. Eloquently named “the Destroyer of Worlds,” he could unleash true havoc – particularly without the Infinity Stones to stop him.

9 The Multiverse Could Be Preparing For The Devastating Incursions

Dormammu may be bad enough, but the Multiverse has even more dangerous implications than a threat crystallized in a villain. In Marvel Comics, the incursions lead to two parallel universes colliding. The paradoxical anomaly, created by the destruction of an unknown universe, lasts for eight hours.

If not stopped, both Earths—and the universes they belong to—are destroyed. Some of the solutions to the problem are just as deadly as the incursions, requiring the destruction of one of the Earths. This may be a threat even greater than the Snap.

8 Adam Warlock’s Appearance May Foresee That Of Magus

The alien threat of Thanos may be gone but that doesn’t eliminate the dangers from other planets. For example, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, is already set to include Adam Warlock. The character first appears in the post-credit scene of Vol. 2. In the MCU, he is created by the Golden High Priestess of the Sovereign Ayesha, specifically to counter the Guardians. The comics’ version of the character is quite different, created by a group of scientists called the Enclave.

Adam’s appearance in the MCU may pave the way for a new devastating villain. The future version of Adam—Magus—founds the Universal Church of Truth, which eventually expands into an intergalactic empire. Adam is eventually able to defeat his alternate self and seal him in the Soul Gem. The MCU version of Adam seems unrelated to the Infinity Stones, but that may just make his dark equivalent even more dangerous.

7 The Skrull Secret Invasion Has Already Begun

Secret Invasion Beard Nick Fury

The Guardians of the Galaxy movies aren’t the only ones who’ve introduced potential new villains. Since Captain Marvel, the Skrulls have been replacing various key characters in the MCU, with notable names being Nick Fury and Maria Hill. Skrulls have seemed a more benevolent force in the MCU than they are in Marvel Comics; however, things may still take a different approach.

The Secret Invasion will be at the center of a Disney+ series of its own – one Kevin Feige describes as focusing on a “political paranoia” element. While the scale of destructiveness is certainly not as great as that of the Snap, it has the potential of being devastating on the already fragile world order.

6 Galactus Could Already Be On His Way

The Skrulls’ main enemy in the MCU may be the Kree. However, in the comics, their empire is also greatly affected when their homeworld is destroyed by Galactus. The villain—known to some from the Fantastic Four comics—is a cosmic entity who consumes planets to sustain himself. Originally a mortal man named Galan, he is the sole survivor of the sixth incarnation of the Multiverse.

Following the next Big Bang, Galan merged with the Sentience of the Universe to become the force of destruction the Fantastic Four later desperately fight. Galactus has appeared in the Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer, but his cloud-like form displeased many viewers. With the Fantastic Four set to join the MCU, the threat of Galactus could also just be around the corner, and the Devourer of Worlds may be on his way to Earth already.

5 The Imminent Arrival Of The X-Men Could Eventually Lead To The Dark Phoenix Saga

Galactus isn’t the only cosmic threat whose live-action adaptation hasn’t quite managed to convince viewers. The Dark Phoenix Saga is one of the most iconic arcs in X-Men history, and perhaps even Marvel history as a whole. Previous attempts at adapting it in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Dark Phoenix have been unable to capture the depth and grandeur of the subject matter.

With the X-Men joining the MCU, Jean Grey may receive another chance at displaying the full extent of her destructive potential. The first X-Men movies appear to only be in the planning stages, but even so, fans of the X-Men certainly look forward to seeing the new version of their favorite characters. As they say, the third time’s the charm, and the Dark Phoenix’s power can certainly create Snap-levels of devastation.

4 The Biggest Threat May Be Wanda Maximoff’s Chaos Magic

Until Jean can join the MCU, the most powerful character introduced so far is likely Wanda Maximoff. In the wake of WandaVision, she’s unveiled her true potential as the Scarlet Witch. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may explore this theme further.

However, Wanda is known for being mentally unstable and her chaos magic—which led to the Westview Incident—could be the biggest future threat the Avengers have to face. In the House of M comics, Wanda unravels the universe with three simple words: “No More Mutants.” Mutants may not exist in the MCU right now, but they will appear. Until then, the looming threat of destruction still exists in Wanda’s reality-defying powers.

3 Mephisto Could Have Something To Do With Tommy And Billy Maximoff

WandaVision also sees the appearance of Tommy and Billy Maximoff. In the comics, Wanda actually creates their souls from slivers of Mephisto’s life essence. The equivalent of the devil in Marvel’s world—if not exactly the Christian version of the concept—Mephisto was theorized to be the antagonist of the Disney+ series but never became a factor. However, that may change.

As Wanda studies the Darkhold in the last episode of WandaVision, she hears the voice of her children, which she’d believed dead. Considering the Darkhold originates from the Hell Dimension, Wanda may end up unleashing Mephisto on the world in an attempt to save her children.

2 The Beyonder Is Perhaps The Most Powerful Being In The Multiverse

Many multiverse entities are a potential threat to the MCU, but few can boast that they actually embody a reality. The antagonist of the Secret Wars arc in Marvel Comics, the Beyonder represents a whole realm—The Beyond—within a human form.

He is practically omnipotent, capable of Multiverse-level destruction, and boasts reality-bending abilities that far outclass the Scarlet Witch. He also sees regular people as tools for his personal experiments, constructing the Battleworld specifically to pit heroes and villains against each other. His terrifying powers can easily cause Snap-like phenomena.

1 Kang The Conqueror Has Become A Possible Threat In Loki

Marvel Revealed the One Character Who Can Defeat Kang

In the Disney+ series Loki, He Who Remains is the leader of the Time Variance Authority and controls the Sacred Timeline in an attempt to stop future Multiverse wars. After his death at the hands of Sylvie, a truly evil version of himself—Kang the Conqueror—takes over the TVA. A time-traveling genius from the future, Nathaniel Richards appears to be practically omniscient, and that alone makes him an incredible threat.

The comic-faithful version of Kang will appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He has committed unspeakable acts, conquered countless worlds, and ruined numerous timelines. On one occasion, he’s even hunted down the Avengers when they were harmless children. It’s difficult to quantify the exact damage he’s done, but he’s one villain who can unleash destruction across time itself.
