Chris Hemsworth first appeared in the MCU as Thor, the God of Thunder, in 2011. While in the comics Thor is a heroic character with a serious story rooted in Nordic mythology the comics, the MCU iteration is a way funnier guy, without losing his epic roots. This change of nature fits perfectly with Hemsworth’s knack for comedy.

In the 2016 Ghostbusters film, Hemsworth plays Kevin Beckman, a handsome but dopey man who works as the team’s receptionist. This character is a gender-bent play on the Dumb Blonde TV Trope. According to Katie Dippold, the film’s screenwriter, Hemsworth improvised a lot during the filming to create this “lovable dummy.”

Katy Chen, played by Awkwafina, is one of the main characters in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. She’s Shang-Chi’s best friend, a foul-mouthed woman whose life changes completely after learning who her friend really is. Awkwafina’s comedic dynamic with Simu Liu makes this movie one of the funniest superhero films out there.

Of course, Katy isn’t Awkwafina’s first comedic role. The actress is already known for her hilarious takes on life as an Asian-American woman. In Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, she plays as a fictionalized version of herself as she navigates her adulthood. In addition to starring in the show, Awkwafina created, wrote, and produced the series.

8 Chris Pratt Constantly Improvises In Parks & Recreation

Chris Pratt is MCU’s Star-Lord. He’s an arrogant Celestial-human hybrid who leads the Guardians of the Galaxy, a team of rogues-turned-heroes. Although the Guardians of the Galaxy are the funniest group in the MCU, they aren’t even close to Pratt’s funniest work, Parks and Recreation.

In Parks and Recreation, Pratt portrays Andy Dwyer, an oblivious man-child who works for the government alongside many other eccentric characters. Even though sometimes Andy can be too much, he’s one of the funniest characters in the series, thanks to Pratt’s comedy talent. According to his castmates, he improvised several iconic lines from the show.

7 How I Met Your Mother Features Cobie Smulders In A Very Different Role

A secondary character in the MCU, Maria Hill is the former Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury’s second-in-command, and a fierce fighter all in all. She’s played by Cobie Smulders, who beat Morena Baccarin, Jessica Lucas, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead for the role.

MCU aside, Smulders is better known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky in the comedy series, How I Met Your Mother. Here, she plays a neurotic Canadian pop-star-turned-journalist with Daddy issues. Since Maria Hill is a serious agent, the MCU didn’t give Smulders the chance to showcase her comedic range. Regardless, her character will be back for Secret Invasion. Hopefully, she will be a bit less serious.

6 Clark Gregg Starred In The New Adventures Of Old Christine For Several Years

Clark Gregg Phil Coulson

Clark Gregg started his career in the MCU in Iron Man as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson, a secondary character originally created for the films. However, son Gregg snatched the main role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Coulson became one of the fandom’s dearest S.H.I.E.L.D. members. His death in The Avengers was one of the first shocking moments of the MCU.

Phil Coulson is kind of a funny guy, but Clark Gregg is even funnier. Five years before leading S.H.I.E.L.D., he played incompetent divorcé Richard Campbell in The New Adventures of Old Christine, alongside Julia Dreyfus-Louis, who recently joined the MCU as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

5 2 Broke Girl$ Features Kat Dennings As A Sarcastic Waitress

Darcy drives a vehicle while talking to Vision

Played by Kat Dennings, Darcy Lewis started in the MCU as Jane Foster’s assistant, a sarcastic woman who serves as comic relief in the Thor movies. Many years later, she became a consultant for S.W.O.R.D. in WandaVision, but she never changes her cynical sense of humor. There was no need, as the fans love her the way she is.

Before Darcy, Kat Dennings portrayed another woman with a candid personality, Max Black, who’s the main character of 2 Broke Girl$. In the series, she’s a street-smart woman trying to raise money to start a cupcake business alongside her best friend, Caroline. Just like Darcy, Max is a funny character full of sarcastic retorts and harsh truths for the people around her.

Since she has a quite tragic story, Natasha isn’t the funniest character in the MCU albeit, she has a couple of moments. Scarlett Johansson, on the other hand, is an underestimated comedienne. In the dark comedy Rough Night, she plays Jess, a woman who gets in the funniest situations after a stripper dies in her bachelorette party. Anyone who doubts Johansson’s comedy skills can also check out her skits in Saturday Night Live.

3 Robert Downey Jr. Masters Physical Comedy In Chaplin

For more than 10 years, Robert Downey Jr. played Iron Man, a genius millionaire whose change of heart sealed the fate of the universe and whose attitude charmed everyone. But, in the comics, Tony Stark isn’t such a lovable fellow. In fact, he’s quite a jerk, and his cheeky attitude is all RDJ’s doing.

He’s known for several comic roles outside the MCU. For example, he was nominated for an Oscar for Chaplin, the 1992 Charles Chaplin biopic. In this film, RDJ showcases his natural talent for physical comedy and “becomes Chaplin so precisely that even the comedian’s daughter Geraldine was both impressed and unnerved.”

Paul Rudd portrays Scott Lang, a former convicted thief with a good-natured heart and a facetious personality who inadvertently becomes a hero after Hank Pym gives him the Ant-Man suit. It isn’t a surprise that Ant-Man is such a funny movie. After all, Paul Rudd has a long-standing career in comedy.

Scott Lang is already one of Paul Rudd’s funniest roles. However, his filmography also includes Wet Hot American Summer, a parody of the late 90’s sex comedies. Rudd portrays Andy, a camp counselor with Peter Pan syndrome obsessed with being cool. This raunchy movie, which wasn’t successful in its time, became a cult classic many years later after most of its cast members became famous.

1 What We Do In The Shadows Is Taika Waititi’s Masterpiece

In addition to directing Thor: Ragnarok and the future Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika Waititi plays Korg, a polite Kronan with a New Zealand accent. Thor meets Korg on Sakaar, and he becomes the God of Thunder’s roommate back on Earth. Such a random character can only come from the mind of a comedy genius such as Waititi.

However, his best comedy work is What We Do In The Shadows, a hilarious mockumentary that follows the daily lives of four vampires who share a flat in a Wellington suburb. The film, which mocks popular vampiric media references, was co-written, co-directed, and co-starred by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clemens.
