10 Harsh Realities Of Being A Pokémon Professor

[ad_1]

There are many rewarding aspects of being a Pokémon Professor throughout the Pokémon franchise. Some of these aspects include working with Pokémon on a regular basis and researching new technologies and interesting discoveries to benefit other regions of the world. However, there are also many troubling aspects of being a Professor.

Some of these troubles include dealing with villainous teams and Professors going rogue. Other issues potentially include organizing new Pokémon Leagues, preparing enough starter Pokémon to hand out to new trainers, and many more activities. Though being a Professor is indeed hugely rewarding, including learning new things through research and working with many Pokémon in the process, it can also be very stressful and time-consuming.

10 Professors Must Prepare Enough Starter Pokémon For New Trainers

Considering that many new trainers often get their starter Pokémon from Professors, this means that Professors must spend much time raising enough starter Pokémon to supply to trainers. In the potential cases where Professors run out of Pokémon, they must quickly figure out alternatives to the regular starter Pokémon to supply to trainers, such as Ash getting Pikachu.

Not only can it be stressful to figure out how many Pokémon need to be raised to the right levels, but Professors also will not know which exact starters trainers will choose. There are possibilities that trainers could choose one specific starter Pokémon over the others, and then the Professors must deal with the starter Pokémon left behind because they were not chosen.

9 Professors Might Have To Organize New Pokémon Leagues

Professor Kukui was in charge of organizing Alola’s first Pokémon League in both the games Sun & Moon and the anime adaptation. Though this was a fun and rewarding event, it also made Kukui quite busy to make sure everything was organized, that nothing would go wrong, and that battles during these Leagues would go smoothly.

Even though it gave the Professor his chance to battle the eventual new Champion (which turned out to be Ash in the anime adaptation, while the player became the Champion in the games), organizing a whole League and their battles can take much time away from precious research and other important duties.

8 Professors Have To Take Care Of Pokémon Trainers Drop Off At Their Labs

Ash Ketchum dropped off many Pokémon at Professor Oak’s lab after he had no use for them or wanted to switch them out for others he already had there. However, Oak is not the only one that likely has to deal with this situation. Many other trainers likely sent their Pokémon to their respective Professors at their labs.

Not only will Professors have to take care of their Pokémon, but they also have to take care of many other trainers’ Pokémon. Considering that there are always new trainers showing up, starting their journeys, and catching Pokémon, the amount of Pokémon the Professor must handle at a time will inevitably build up over time.

7 Professors Might Have To Learn Other Fields Of Study Outside Of Pokémon

Many Professors often learn other fields of study outside of just Pokémon alone. Examples of this include Dr. Yung studying Mirage Pokémon, Dr. Fuji creating Mewtwo, Gary studying Fossil Pokémon after he became a Professor, and Luna Carson, who studied Pokémon habitats.

Even though some fields of study might relate to Pokémon, they might also relate to other important parts of general civilizations to make sure everything is running properly. Examples of this include Professor Hastings in the Pokémon Ranger games, who created the Capture Styler for Rangers to use on their respective missions.

6 Professors Have To Deal With Other Professors Gone Rogue

Some Pokémon Professors might end up using their work to fulfill their own selfish or evil purposes. One main example of this is Dr. Yung, who invented Mirage Pokémon. After Yung revealed his plans to hack Pokémon Centers worldwide and use the information to create the ultimate Mirage Pokémon, Dr. Oak had to work with Ash and his companions to stop him from going through with his plans, or else the world was doomed.

Some of these evil Professors can be cruel to Pokémon despite working with them, and it can be horrible for actually good Professors to witness these evil Professors abusing their power.

5 Professors Must Deal With Villainous Teams

Many villainous teams deal with trying to take over the world and stealing Pokémon, and this means that professors, the Pokémon, and the research they have at their labs are often at great risk for being stolen and/or kidnapped.

If the villainous teams or other foes end up nabbing the Pokémon, this could lead to a lot of unrest among the trainers that dropped them off at the labs and also among the Professors themselves, since they will have to spend time trying to get those Pokémon back. Most Professors are usually skilled trainers themselves, which could help in defending Pokémon from foes, but the possibility of Pokémon being kidnapped still exists.

4 Professors Might Need To Spend Time Teaching New Trainers At Pokémon School Instead Of On Their Research

Some Pokémon Professors have to spend their time teaching people to improve as new trainers at Pokémon School instead of using that time for their research, much like how Professor Kukui spent lots of time teaching Ash and his companions in Alola. Though this experience could be rewarding, this also can take a lot of time away from their work, giving them little time to accomplish anything outside of training new trainers.

Instead of accomplishing great heights in understanding new technologies and other phenomenons related to Pokémon, Professors could be stuck repeating the same basic information to new classes of trainers.

3 Professors Must Handle Lots Of Confidential Information

Since Professors are so involved with their research, including developing new technology and other devices that involve Pokémon, Pokémon Centers, and other areas of importance, they must also handle lots of confidential information.

Not only are they handling trainers’ Pokémon, but they also obtain lots of information about them through working with and researching them. Some of this information, if it fell into the wrong hands, could be a huge matter of life and death.

2 Professors Must Often Handle Dangerous Or New Technologies

Professors often get involved in research, and a lot of this research might involve them heading into new territory that no one else studied before. The Wishing Stars and Dynamax Bands in Sword & Shield were relatively new, for example, and it was only thanks to Magnolia having Sonia’s assistance on the side that both of them realized the Wishing Stars’ connection to Eternatus, also known as Galar’s Darkest Day.

Other Professors dealt with trying to figure out what exactly the GS Ball did and why it existed in the first place. Though researching these new technologies can be fun and exciting, they can also be dangerous if they are mishandled or something else goes wrong during the research process.

1 Professors Are Extremely Busy People

Considering all of the research, training, and everything else that they do to make sure the current Pokémon handling and training systems are maintained, it is unsurprising that many Pokémon professors are busy.

Many Professors are often swamped with the many duties they must do in obligation to their research, fellow Pokémon, new trainers, and the rest of the Pokémon world at large. This gives them little time to relax outside of their research, so it is a huge deal if they have time for even a short vacation.
