10 Comic Book Weapons That Are Too Powerful For Their Own Good

[ad_1]

Besides superpowered beings and vigilantes always training to get better, comics are full of powerful weapons: tools for the superheroes to battle or even cosmic objects which villains want to obtain no matter what. Although many of these powerful items were originally introduced in comics as Deus ex machina-like plot devices, they left a great impression due to their might and earned a place in the comic universe forever.

Some of these weapons are the result of technological progress while some others are magical objects. What’s more, some are just beyond human understanding, so they are yet to be explained. The only thing these items have in common is that they all grant their user abilities beyond comparison.

10 The Soultaker Sword Turns People Evil

Bore by Katana, the Soultaker Sword is capable of extracting its victim’s souls allowing the murderer to communicate with said spirit. This sword was crafted alongside a twin non-powered sword by Sango Murasama, a famous swordsmith known for creating cursed blades in the 14th century. In fact, both swords were said to turn people evil.

Luckily, this hasn’t been the case for Katana, who works as a superheroine with the Outsiders. However, many dangerous men have tried to possess it, given its power. Before Katana took the sword, it belonged to her brother-in-law, Takeo Yamashiro, a sadistic member of the Yakuza who wanted to create a personal army with the souls robbed by the Soultaker Sword.

9 Even Dormammu Fears The Staff Of One

After Tokiko Minoru beat the powerful sorcerer known as The One in battle, she offered her a choice: “die by her sword or live as her sword.” The One chose the latter and became the Staff of One, a powerful weapon that has served the Minoru women for generations.

The Staff of One is so powerful that, according to Tina Minoru, it has even made Dormammu tremble. Since it has one the mightiest sorcerers inside, this weapon’s magic is truly infinite. Its only trick is that it can only cast a spell once, so its bearer must be witty to use it properly. For example, Nico Minoru resorts to using different languages during her battles.

8 The White Lantern Rings Are Stronger Than Any Other Lantern Ring

Powered by life itself, the White Lantern Rings first appeared in Blackest Night #7 after Hal Jordan bonded with the Life Entity to save other Justice League members, recently turned into Black Lanterns, and change them into White Lanterns. Once Hal Jordan destroyed Black Hand, the villain regurgitated the twelve white rings.

The White Lantern Rings use White light, a combination of the seven other lights. Given this, White Lantern Rings can override any other Lantern power. Besides, some users, like Kyle Rayner, can use the abilities of the other seven rings, such as teleportation from Indigo rings and fear-based constructions from the Sinestro Corps. In addition to this, since they use life as energy, these rings can be used to resurrect anyone.

7 Some Cosmic Cubes Can Even Become Sentient

Since it contains the Space Stone, the MCU’s Cosmic Cube, aka the Tesseract, can only be used to create energy and open wormholes to any place. However, in the comics, Cosmic Cubes control matter and energy with no restriction, which means they can be used to alter reality without limits.

Many believe the Cosmic Cube’s ability to warp reality is based on mere illusions. Still, the cubes have been used to nullify the power of cosmic entities, such as the Stranger and the Elders of the Universe. In addition to allowing its user to manipulate reality itself, these cubes can develop intelligence, like Kubik, used by Red Skull to rewrite reality and turn Captain America into a Hydra agent in the 2017 series Secret Empire.

6 The Anti-Life Equation Allows Its User To Control Anyone

dcu vs anti-life equation and darkseid

The Anti-Life Equation isn’t a gun, a sword, or any kind of wieldable weapon, which means it’s pretty much undefeatable. Instead, it’s a mathematical formula that allows anyone who knows it to control others because it is mathematical proof that life is pointless. By speaking the equation, anyone can put it inside others’ minds rendering them hopeless.

Darkseid spent several years trying to find the formula. During Final Crisis, he broadcasted the Anti-Life Equation through all of Earth’s communications networks. He managed to control the whole human race, as well as some superheroes heroes such as Wonder Woman. However, he was ultimately defeated by the Justice League using another overpowered weapon, the Miracle Machine.

5 All-Black The Necrosword Is A Living Symbiote

gorr the god bucher with his sword

Also known as the Annihilablade, All-Black The Necrosword is arguably the coolest and most vicious weapon in the Marvel universe. Instead of being just a blade, this sword is the first existing symbiote. It was created out of Knull, the God of Darkness’ shadow, and it was tempered using a dead Celestial’s power. The Necrosword was dangerous enough in Knull’s hands, but once Gorr The God Butcher took it from him, it started living up to its potential.

Gorr used the sword to kill many Gods, but he also turned it into a detonator for the Godbomb, a moon-sized explosive used to disseminate darkness across time and space. The only way to defeat All-Black The Necrosword was to throw it into a Black Hole, but even then, it returned one too many times.

4 Superman Rejected The Sword Of Superman

Sword of Superman

Everyone knows Superman doesn’t need weapons. He’s a weapon himself. However, in 1984, Elliot S. Maggin and Curt Swan created the Sword of Superman for Superman Annual #10. This sword, created in the Big Bang, traveled from the beginning of time to Earth in order to find Kal-El.

Fundamentally incorruptible, the Sword of Superman created a link between the superhero and creation itself, granting him cosmic awareness and amping up his powers to celestial levels. However, Superman decided these powers were too much and let the sword go through space, in order to retain his own humanity.

3 The Infinity Gauntlet Can Turn Anyone Into A God

Although the Infinity Gauntlet on itself does nothing, it serves as the placeholder for the Infinity Gems or Infinity Stones: Mind, Power, Reality, Soul, Space, and Time. If used all together, these gems grant their wielder god-like powers, such as reality-warping abilities. This is why many villains are looking for them, while heroes seek to protect them.

Any MCU fan knows Thanos collected them to decimate half of Earth’s population on Earth-199999. But not many know that the Silver Surfer also possessed them in What If…? #49. The hero used them to restore his home planet, but in the end, he gave them up to avoid the corruption of his own mind.

2 Only Superman Knows How To Create The Miracle Machine

The Miracle Machine is an artifact from the year 2960 that can transform thought into objects. This means it modifies reality to its user’s will. According to Brainiac 5, the Miracle Machine’s technology comes from reverse-engineering the Green Lantern Ring’s tech, so instead of using willpower as energy, it takes willpower as raw material to create something else.

Since the Miracle Machine is basically a wish-granting tool, it’s considered as one of the most dangerous weapons in the DC Multiverse, so the Legion of Super-Heroes keeps it locked in a vault. It’s only to be used in emergencies, like in Final Crisis #6, where Brainiac 5 allowed Superman to memorize its structure so he could use it against Darkseid in the 21st Century.

1 The Ultimate Nullifier Destroys A Person On The Atomic Level

Fantastic-Four-Ultimate-Nullifier-Header

Dubbed “the universe’s most devastating weapon” by Uatu the Watcher, the Ultimate Nullifier can eliminate any target while violating the law of conservation of mass. This means whoever gets in its way is completely erased from existence forever.

Regardless, not anyone can use the Ultimate Nullifier. If the wielder doesn’t have a mind strong enough, they could be erased too, since it requires intense concentration. Its effect depends heavily on the user’s intellect. If whoever is using the Ultimate nullifier is extremely powerful or smart, like Galactus or Mr. Fantastic, they could erase complete worlds or even timelines.
