It’s truly remarkable how much children’s programming have evolved over the past decade, a lot of which certainly wouldn’t be possible without the trails that Nickelodeon helped blaze. Nickelodeon has become a reliable home for engaging and progressive animated series that open children up to new ideas and wild, unconventional characters.
Nickelodeon’s stable of content has been a frequent well to draw from for video games and there are a number of old fighting titles that celebrate Nickelodeon’s collective history. It’s recently been announced that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will bring together some of the network’s most popular and beloved personalities.
10 Aang’s Everlasting Courage And Strength Make Him A Mandatory All-Star Brawler
Avatar: The Last Airbender was the underappreciated cult classic when it originally aired on Nickelodeon, but its addition to Netflix’s library has brought new eyes to the franchise and proven to audiences of all ages how much maturity rests in this series.
Big things are planned for the future of Avatar, so it’d be seriously surprising if All-Star Brawl is bereft of any of Avatar’s mystical warriors. Aang is a natural fighter, unlike most of All-Star Brawl’s roster. There’s so much potential within Aang that a satisfying representation of the character here could even trigger a full-on Avatar fighting game.
9 Rocko’s Awkward Wallaby Impulses Are Just Itching To Get Unleashed
Rocko’s Modern Life is an important program from Nickelodeon’s golden years that helped the network establish their more unusual voice. Rocko, a fastidious wallaby, is hardly a conventional protagonist, but his neurotic compulsions and unusual friends help give the series an undeniable energy and perspective.
As it stands, there aren’t any characters in All-Star Brawl from Rocko’s Modern Life, which is an absolute travesty that needs to be rectified. If anyone from the series is included, it makes sense that it’s Rocko, perhaps with his dog, Spunky, in tow.
8 CatDog Is Ready For Battle From Whatever Angle Danger Approaches
Modern children’s programming features some incredibly complex characters, but sometimes a simple, ridiculous idea is more than enough to get kids’ attention. CatDog, like its name implies, is a series about the stressful struggles of a two-headed animal that’s both a cat and a dog.
CatDog was weird when it debuted and it’s still weird now, which is exactly why it needs to be added to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. There are no other characters in the game with a similar design or style, which gives this anomaly of a pet a lot of room to explore.
7 Norbert And Daggett, The Angry Beavers, Are The Perfect Tandem Tag-Team
Sometimes, a good character doesn’t truly come into their own until they’re a part of a team. Many Nickelodeon series feature memorable duos who either work together or are natural opposites. Angry Beavers’ Norbert and Daggett blur these lines as a perfect pairing who love to annoy each other.
On their own, Norbert and Daggett might seem out of their league in All-Star Brawl, but they’d make for a fascinating tandem character. Characters like the Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros., prove that this approach can work very well and the Angry Beavers are Nickelodeon’s most natural team.
6 Splinter Is A Martial Arts Master With Style To Spare
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles didn’t begin as Nickelodeon properties, but the network has become a reliable home for some modern takes on these exaggerated characters. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has already announced that Leonardo and Michelangelo will bring turtle power to the fight, which makes it also likely that their other two reptile compatriots will also join the fray.
Everyone loves the Ninja Turtles, but Splinter would be such a more creative choice. He has the most fighting knowledge out of anyone in the series, and he’s certainly more exciting than more half-shelled reptiles.
5 Timmy Turner And His Special Godparents Can Bring Magic To The Battlefield
Fairly Oddparents marks a classic piece of Nickelodeon programming that mixes slice-of-life antics with magical misadventures. No one from the Oddparents family has been announced for All-Star Brawl, which seems like an oversight.
Both of the central characters would fit well, but if only one can make the cut, then it’d be a lot of fun to have Timmy Turner in combat with his magical godparents Cosmo and Wanda by his side and doing most of the heavy lifting. The recent news of a live-action Fairly Oddparents continuation means that a proper showcase in All-Star Brawl makes sense.
4 Korra’s Development Has Turned Her Into A Heavier Hitter Than Avatar’s Aang
There is no shortage of powerful characters from the Avatar franchise, most of whom would be fitting additions to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. That being said, Korra is particularly exceptional since she doesn’t just steadily improve throughout The Last Airbender, but she headlines her own spin-off series, which many view to be even more substantial than Avatar.
Korra is a clear star, and All-Star Brawl would seriously suffer without her as part of the package. Korra is distinct enough from Aang and Zuko, but she also brings more important female fighters to the game.
3 Jimmy Neutron’s Non-Stop Experiments And Technology Are A Natural Fit
The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius helped bridge the gap between Nickelodeon’s traditional 2D animated series and their CG endeavors. Jimmy Neutron has an important legacy with Nickelodeon. At a point he even had a level of fanfare that was comparable to SpongeBob SquarePants.
An intelligent child doesn’t immediately seem like a good choice for a fighting game, but Jimmy could come equipped with a plethora of science experiments and technology that give him the upper hand in battle. This character concept quickly makes Jimmy Neutron one of the most exciting possible additions to the game.
2 Plankton’s Unpredictable Megalomania Is The Perfect Wild Card For All-Star Brawl
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl still has lots of hidden characters that they’ve yet to reveal, but it’s no secret that SpongeBob SquarePants will have a huge presence in the crossover fighter. There are already three confirmed SpongeBob characters with SpongeBob, Sandy, and Patrick, but it’s likely that even more will make it in.
SpongeBob’s inner circle may get priority, but Plankton is a character who would be more interesting than anyone else. Plankton is frequently positioned as the villain in SpongeBob video games. His malevolent attitude and knack for intimidating machinery are winning traits to showcase in All-Star Brawl.
1 All-Star Brawl Is Lacking In Villainy And Zuko Is The Right Choice
It’s still uncertain if All-Star Brawl will bring Avatar and Korra into this crossover fighting experiment, but Zuko is someone who absolutely deserves a shot, even if there’s a sparse selection from this rich universe.
Zuko represents the very best type of villain in the sense that he’s relatable with understandable motivations, as well as powers that easily rival Aang’s. The ebb and flow of Aang and Zuko’s tense relationship is a highlight of Avatar, and there aren’t enough lovable villains included yet. Zuko would even be a fitting choice for the game’s final boss even if he’s not playable.
