10 Anime Villains Who Were Killed For Their Betrayal

Many anime characters become villainous for their heinous acts of betrayal. From killing entire clans to backstabbing heroes, these villains become infamous for their misdeeds. While some don’t necessarily have bad intentions, they still find themselves on the side of evil.

Sometimes, these characters are killed as punishment for their actions. Other times they get away with it. Occasionally, they’re even killed as an indirect result of their various betrayals. Betrayal is a popular trope, so there are many anime characters who betrayed others and ended up losing their lives over it.

10 Naruto’s Itachi Uchiha Died While Fighting Sasuke

Itachi Uchiha betrayed his clan, his younger brother, and the entire Hidden Leaf Village when he massacred the Uchiha clan in Naruto. In truth, Danzo and the shadowy organization that aimed to protect the village asked him to commit the atrocity. Itachi only agreed to prevent another war.

To ordinary citizens and Sasuke, however, he had committed the ultimate betrayal. Sasuke spent his life training to become strong enough to finally defeat Itachi.  He eventually learned the true reason behind Itachi’s betrayal, which did nothing to help his fragile emotional state.

9 Jujutsu Kaisen’s Toji Fushiguro Betrayed The Jujutsu Sorcerer Community & The Zenin Clan

Toji Fushiguro was treated terribly by the Zenin clan in Jujutsu Kaisen, who looked down on those without Cursed Energy. Unsurprisingly, Toji eventually left the clan. What was surprising was his switch to becoming a Jujutsu Sorcerer killer after rigorous training to become stronger than sorcerers without Cursed Energy.

Eventually, his misdeeds caught up to him and he was slain, but Toji’s death wasn’t the end of the Fushiguro legacy. His son, Megumi Fushiguro, lived on to become a Jujutsu Sorcerer who later confronts his father.

Just like his father, Dario, Dio Brando was never a good guy. During JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood, Dario tried to steal from the dying Joestar patriarch, George Joestar, but he was caught and pretended to be saving him instead. Being a good-hearted man, George felt indebted to Dario. As a result, George agreed to take Dio in as his own son after Dario died.

Dio was never grateful for George’s kindness. He antagonized Jonathan Joestar and eventually murdered George, the very man that took him in. Dio’s heinous betrayal began the events that led to an entire legacy of Joestar fighters.


7 Rui Killed Any Member Of His Pseudo-Family That Tried To Run In Demon Slayer

Rui was part of the Twelve Kizuki, an elite force of demons that are some of the Demon Lord Muzan’s best fighters in Demon Slayer. A traumatic human life left Rui with a lot of emotional baggage as a demon. He became a demon due to his frail body, but when his parents found out, they tried and failed to kill him. Rui killed them instead and became obsessed with having a family thereafter.

He forced other demons into being part of his spider-themed pseudo-family. Those that tried to escape were quickly found out and killed in cruel and horrific ways. Family members such as “oldest sister,” “youngest sister,” and “youngest brother” all perished at Rui’s hand for their “betrayals.”


6 Light Yagami Of Death Note Betrayed Takada & His Own Father

In the world of Death Note, many people loved Light Yagami. He was depicted as highly intelligent, very charismatic, and attractive. Both Misa Amane and Kiyomi Takada fell in love with him, and he betrayed both of them. He manipulated Misa until she was boring and no longer useful, and he used Takada until he had to kill her to save himself.

Ultimately, it was killing Takada that eventually caused his defeat. He played into the hands of both Mello and Near, who wasted no time calling in the authorities to confront the true Kira. Light’s hubris and betrayals caused his demise in the end.


5 Lenore Died For Betraying Dracula In Castlevania

Lenore was a vampire and one of four sisters who worked with Carmilla in Castlevania. Carmilla herself was another vampire who helped thwart Dracula Tepes’ plans and pave the way for Dracula’s death. She was also the caretaker of Hector, a forge master who was tricked into betraying Dracula and helping Carmilla.

Eventually, another forge master, Isaac, cornered Hector and the vampires. He sought revenge for Dracula, his beloved master. Once Lenore lost everything, she chose to kill herself rather than die at Isaac’s hands for betraying Dracula.


4 Fullmetal Alchemists’ Shou Tucker Died After Harming His Daughter

Shou Tucker betrayed his own family time and time again in Fullmetal Alchemist, but his ultimate betrayal involved his daughter Nina and her pet dog. Shou was so obsessed with his status as an alchemist that he was willing to hurt anyone to elevate his status, including his own child.

He fused Nina with her dog, creating a horrific chimera that was obviously suffering. Nina had to be put out of her misery, and Shou was executed by Scar for his crimes. Shou committed the ultimate betrayal as a father, but he also betrayed his community and gave alchemists a bad name.




3 Hyakkimaru’s Family Were Complicit In Lord Daigo’s Crimes In Dororo

However well-intentioned Lord Daigo was when he made a deal with demons to preserve his people in Dororo, it was not his right to offer up his son’s life and body parts to those demons in exchange. No one could blame Hyakkimaru for wanting to hunt down and get revenge on his family.

Hyakkimaru’s mother and his brother, Tahomaru, may not have deserved to die as they did, but they’d been complicit in Daigo’s crimes. They lived with the luxuries and prosperity that the Daigo lands afforded them, making them worthy of Hyakkimaru’s revenge.

Shinji wasn’t the only thing he was willing to sacrifice, either; he was also willing to bring about the apocalypse, which he managed to do successfully.

Obito Uchiha is another character who dies trying to redeem himself for his past betrayals in Naruto: Shippuden. Obito is Kakashi Hatake’s childhood friend and one of the series primary villains. Thanks to Obito, Kaguya and the Otsutsuki were brought back and given a chokehold on the land.

Before that, he’d caused the Nine-tails’ attack on the Hidden Leaf and the subsequent deaths of Naruto’s parents. Obito died saving Kakashi and Naruto from Kaguya, the matriarch of the Otsutsuki, allowing him to redeem himself. None of that would have been needed if he had never betrayed the Leaf in the first place.
