10 Anime To Watch If You Love Arcane

[ad_1]

League Of Legends has been a popular entity within the gaming community for years. When Riot Games and Fortiche brought Arcane to Netflix in 2021, the animated series was highly anticipated. Arcane took a handful of beloved characters from the franchise, putting them into a world and lore already created for the game. The series flipped it on its head with a surprising level of added depth.

Arcane has become a huge hit. There is now an excruciating wait for the second season, so fans are needing other shows and movies to fill that void. Despite being a western animated series and not an actual anime, Arcane still has plenty of anime series that can be compared to it.

10 Death Parade Is Thought Provoking Entertainment At Its Finest

Death Parade _ Decim _ Clavis _ Puppet Strings

Death Parade introduces some interesting themes with its deep dives into its characters. The main premise focuses on souls being judged in games after death. These games ultimately determine whether a soul gets to be reincarnated or sent to the void to permanently erase from existence.

The premise, the character building and the captivating events that ensue are what makes Death Parade such a compelling anime. Death Parade’s issues of morality are comparable to those of Arcane. While the shows aren’t similar, they both have impressive rosters of characters that fit into their respective narratives seamlessly.

9 The Fate Franchise Is Full Of Explosive Fight Scenes & Intriguing Storytelling

Saber Leads The Masters And Servants Of Fate Stay Night

The Fate series is often met with mixed reviews. This is mainly due to its complexity and the correct order to watch the season variations, not necessarily because of its quality. The Fate franchise prides itself on its lore and character building. Fate rewards loyal viewers with a collection of series rife with action and intriguing storytelling.

Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks are held in high regard and are certainly worth watching. In addition to the fast-paced action sequences, Fate‘s characters tussle with power in different and interesting ways. This makes for intriguing interactions and dynamics.

8 Deadman Wonderland Has A Captivating & Devastating Level Of Intensity To It

Ganta Joins The Prisoners In Deadman Wonderland

The Arcane series is many things. One thing that particularly stands out is Arcane’s brutality, not just through gore and violence, but its emotional devastation. Brutal can also describe the gritty anime Deadman Wonderland.

Ganta is falsely accused of murder and sent to prison. The ensuing events (and inmates that are subsequently introduced) are horrific, but make for an intense series. The unpredictable nature of the prison, where various games and deathmatches are setup for the inmates, parallels Arcane‘s brutal undercity, Zaun.

7 Code Geass Also Has Conflicting Loyalties

Emperor Lelouch Threatens Peace In Code Geass

Code Geass: Lelouch Of The Rebellion initially aired in 2006. Code Geass is often discussed as the best and most revolutionary anime series ever. Its popularity is yet to waver. Brought to life by the studio Sunrise, Code Geass is known for its fast-paced action. Its flashy animation is eye-catching and unique.

Code Geass is an anime rooted in war and conflict, in particular between Britannia and Japan, or Area 11. Lelouch is the catalyst for fighting back against Britannia, on his own personal quest for vengeance. The complicated prospect of war also lingers over Arcane. Certain characters step up to oppose any discrimination or injustice, while others simply prefer war over peace.

6 Last Exile’s Steampunk Aesthetics Are Comparable To Piltover

Claus, Lavie, and Alvis

For those wanting to continue on the steampunk theme that is present (but not especially focused on) in ArcaneLast Exile is perfect. In Last Exile, the steampunk aesthetic is a central theme, with aerial vehicles taking to the forefront.

Similar to the brewing tensions of Piltover and Zaun in Arcane, Last Exile has the warring nations of Anatoray and Disith. This makes for an overall unsettling atmosphere in the world of Prester. Last Exile revolves around fifteen-year-old pilot Claus and navigator Lavie. Last Exile quickly develops into an intriguing storyline, with plenty of action and character development.

5 86-Eighty-Six & Arcane Share A Common Theme Of Discrimination & Classism

Those that enjoyed Arcane will know that its complex characters each had their own conflictions and hesitations about ongoing events. Caitlyn had initial ignorance to the truth behind Piltover’s cruelty to the undercity. Jayce had ever-changing conviction regarding his political stance. Arcane‘s morally complicated situations are paralleled by the anime 86.

The unjust treatment and discrimination of 86 can be difficult to watch. The Republic of San Magnolia has been at war against the Empire of Giad, and have been fighting for nine years. 86 is an emotional yet captivating watch, rife with intense action and storytelling.

4 Dorohedoro Transcends The Meaning Of Genre

Kaiman And Nikaido From Dorohedoro

Dorohedoro originally aired in 2020 and introduced a brutally violent and gritty story. Dorohedoro follows a man named Caiman, also spelled Kaiman, on a unique quest to find the sorcerer that gave him the head of a reptile and erased his memories. It mixes dark fantasy and science fiction, which is comparable to Arcane. Although, Dorohedoro‘s is much less subtle about it.

Both worlds have a society that looks down on another. Piltover and the undercity of Zaun are at odds in Arcane. The sorcerers are able to torment those in the Hole in Dorohedoro. The anime is a perfect choice for those wanting something new and unique, with chaotic action and an often bizarre premise. Dorohedoro was exceptionally executed.

3 Akame Ga Kill’s Dark Nature & Grim Atmosphere Are Rarely Matched

Akame wielding a sword beside her head

Regardless of opinion when it comes to the quality of Akame Ga Kill, what cannot be disputed is the doom and gloom of the world. Akame Ga Kill’s main premise is a band of assassins called Night Raid, fighting evil despite the bad press they may receive. Unlike many other shows, Akame Ga Kill isn’t afraid to prematurely kill off a character.

While this becomes predictable towards the end, the fight scenes and high intensity still make for a compelling show. Arcane has more of a plot armor surrounding its main characters than Akame Ga Kill.  But, Arcane’s character building and clever plot manipulation makes audiences believe that almost any character could meet their end.

2 Monster Is Pure Tension & Grit

Monster is an intense anime that follows Doctor Kenzo Tenma, and the morally grey choices that he makes. Making these difficult decisions, and subsequently dealing with their consequences, makes for a captivating anime. Monster also draws parallels to Arcane.

In Arcane, every character has their own flaws and makes questionable choices, no matter their motives or reasoning. Consequences are a running theme through Arcane. Originally aired in 2004, Monster is a psychological thriller that captivates throughout its 74 episodes, with intense storytelling and intriguing character development.

1 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Has A More Pleasant Sibling Relationship Than Arcane

The main comparison to be made between Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Arcane is that the driving force of both shows is a sibling relationship. Vi and Jinx’s relationship is complex, with mistakes and abandonment turning unconditional love into a giant wedge between them. Edward and Alphonse are much closer, more often on the same page, despite all of the hardships that they have endured.

Beyond the sibling dynamics, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has an engrossing story full of twists and turns which justifies its stellar reviews over the years. Like Arcane, it has emotionally devastating moments, but also plenty of fast-paced action and intense storytelling.
