Most of the time, things just happened to work out for her, she moved from place to place on a whim. She barley noticed half of the weird things that happened to her and other characters. She remained nonchalant and unfazed throughout most of the series.

In the original series, he can barely handle Pikachu and Charizard. Fans rarely see him do more than make his Pokémon fight. Ash is not completely useless without his Pokémon, but he frequently makes terrible choices. While Ash does not always win his battles, he always saves the day.
