The My Hero Academia universe empowers its characters through a phenomenon called Quirks. They are special abilities that individuals are born with and often serve to define their future.
Although the series has provided unique powers for its characters to wield, many similar abilities exist in other anime stories. By identifying characters from different universes who share a power from the Hero world, we can better appreciate the originality of Deku’s adventures.
10 Tetsutetsu’s Steel Is Similar To Drole’s Heavy Metal (The Seven Deadly Sins)
Tetsutetsu’s Steel Quirk allows him to harden his body and significantly increase his physical strength. This proved to be a massive asset in straightforward combat since he could rip down entire water towers with brute force alone, as well as power through Todoroki’s concentrated attacks.
Similarly, in The Seven Deadly Sins, Drole’s Heavy Metal envelops him in a metallic sheen that protects him from damage. It was arguably his greatest asset when facing off against Meliodas and shares a strong physical resemblance to his Class 1-B counterpart.
9 Midnight & Mayuri Both Have Sedating Gas Abilities (Bleach)
Midnight’s Quirk allows her to secrete sleeping gas from her bare skin. It is capable of knocking enemies unconscious but poses a similar threat to nearby heroes.
Mayuri’s Zanpakuto has a similar effect in Bleach. Although his summoned demon doesn’t knock adversaries unconscious, it does paralyze them and make it impossible for them to fight back. This was a tactic he employed against Szayel Aporro Granz during the attack on the Espada at the expense of Uryu and Renji.
8 Mirio’s Permeation Is Almost Identical To Obito’s Kamui (Naruto)
Mirio’s Permeation and Obito’s Kamui share many things in common. The most evident similarity is the fact that it makes them extremely difficult for their enemies to hit since they can become incorporeal at will.
However, there are a few important differences. Whatever part of Obito’s body is being phased out physically manifests in a pocket dimension, creating a weakness against opponents who also have access to the Kamui. Additionally, Mirio’s Quirk took years of arduous practice to master and could potentially kill an unprepared user.
7 Scar’s Alchemy Is Similar To Overhaul’s Quirk (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Scar’s application of alchemy bears a strong resemblance to Overhaul’s Quirk. The hand of destruction can potentially kill any adversary in Fullmetal Alchemist, scattering them into gory paste just like the Yakuza boss’s preferred method of combat.
Scar wields the hand of creation in a similar way. During the fight against Fuhrer King Bradley, Scar unleashed massive earthen columns in hopes of skewering him. This was a strategy Overhaul used against Mirio during the attack on his hideout after realizing that he could not touch him in a fair brawl.
6 Mt. Lady’s Enlarging Quirk Is Similar To A Titan Transformation (Attack On Titan)
Mt. Lady and Titan shifters share a fundamental similarity in the sense that they can grow quickly to towering heights. Given that the Hero was able to stand well above conventional buildings, it follows that she’s bigger than many of Attack on Titan’s tallest characters (except for the Beast and Colossal Titans).
There are minor differences between her Quirk and an Eldian transformation, however, such as the need to draw blood to shift into a Titan form.
5 Sir Nighteye’s Predictions Are Similar To Tohth (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
Oingo’s “Tohth” Stand in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure allows him to glimpse a general idea of the future through comic panels in his book. What he sees is unavoidable, though it often has a tendency to backfire in unintended ways.
Similarly, Sir Nighteye’s Quirk grants him the power to see into the future with the knowledge that he is powerless to stop it. Consequently, he only uses his abilities in several-second intervals in order to keep his sanity intact. Ever since predicting All Might’s downfall, he swore off overdoing his powers.
4 Toru & Inumuta Could Both Go Invisible (Kill La Kill)
Toru and Inumuta both possess the ability to be invisible. The former’s power is simply the nature of her Quirk, while the latter is derived from his three star life fiber uniform.
Despite their commonalities, each character has talents that are exclusively their own. For instance, Toru’s light reflection can blind all enemies in her direct vicinity, while Inumata can stretch out his fibers for a sweeping area attack in Kill la Kill. However, the latter has low destructive capability, as proven through his failure to harm Ryuko.
3 Burns’ Explosive Ignition Ability Is Just Like Bakugo’s Quirk (Fire Force)
Bakugo and Fire Force‘s Company One’s Leonard Burns both have tremendously powerful explosive abilities. They can create bursts of heat on a whim in order to repel adversaries and are particularly deadly in close range confrontation.
The differences between their skills are only a minor technicality. Bakugo is a highly mobile fighter and uses the sweat on his palms as fuel, while Burns is more stationary and can unleash firepower from any part of his body. As a result, they have distinct fighting styles despite the fundamentally identical nature of their abilities.
2 Killua’s Electricity Is Reminiscent of Kaminari’s (Hunter X Hunter)
The Nen ability of Hunter X Hunter‘s Killua and Denki Kaminari’s Quirk are reasonably similar. Both characters are able to project lightning from their fingertips to repel and fry their adversaries.
Nonetheless, Killua’s mastery over lightning is superior in several regards. Not only is he able to attain incredibly fast speeds by using his Nen, there is no limit to his power aside from exhaustion. Conversely, Kaminari must constantly be mindful of his own strength so that his Quirk doesn’t have any unintended backlash against him.
1 Chopper’s Devil Fruit Is Similar To Nezu’s Quirk (One Piece)
Though it may not seem like it, Tony Tony Chopper and Principal Nezu have extremely similar abilities. Both are inherently animals whose powers – the High Specs Quirk and Human-Human fruit, respectively – granted them the intelligence necessary to interact with the rest of the sentient world.
Not only did it afford them an ability to speak, it also made them geniuses. As a result, Nezu was able to lead the most successful (and targeted) school in all of Japan, while Chopper’s medical knowledge saved his friends on countless occasions in One Piece.
