There is much amazing anime that exists, but even some of the best shows can have one scene that ruins the rest. These scenes ruined the experience either by being more controversial in terms of content, adding too much fanservice, and straight-up making viewers uncomfortable overall with their presented concepts.
From Tiger & Bunny ending with Kotstsu being a hero despite hugely diminished powers, to I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job including fanservice-oriented scenes that felt too much to their viewers, these anime would be more amazing if the various bad scenes they had were altered or cut out entirely.
10 Tiger & Bunny Ended With Kotetsu Continuing To Be A Hero Despite Hugely Diminished Powers
During the superhero anime Tiger & Bunny, one of the main protagonists, Kotetsu T. Kaburagi, suffered from his powers diminishing over time. Fans expected that, by the time of the finale, Kotetsu would decide to eventually give up on being a hero entirely and live a more balanced life as a single father to his daughter, Kaede.
Instead, the final scenes showed that despite his extremely diminished powers only giving him enhanced abilities for less than a minute, Kotetsu continued to be a hero regardless. Some fans were upset by this outcome since all the previous signs before this scene leaned towards him ultimately retiring and taking care of Kaede.
9 Love Lab Had The Infamous “Soul Sister” Scene
During one scene in Love Lab, the student president suggested that she should dress like a “soul sister” to attract cute guys, and even tried dressing as such by tanning her skin briefly. Some fans interpreted this to be based on the Japanese ganguro fashion style, which involved people bleaching their hair, significantly tanning their skin to be darker, and wearing liberal amounts of makeup.
However, many others called it out as blackface, and the series garnered controversy based on that one scene alone. Thankfully for viewers, this never happened again in the rest of Love Lab, though some fans questioned why the creators bothered putting such a scene in the anime adaptation to begin with.
8 Hinako Note Was Ruined With The Fanservicey Dress-Up Scene
Though it is not uncommon for the cast of Hinako Note to dress up in various, fashionable costumes, since they are part of a theater club and formed their independent theater group together, there was one scene where Mayuki dressed up everyone else in various outfits. Unfortunately for fans looking for a more wholesome slice-of-life anime, these outfits leaned towards giving more fanservice than just dressing the characters up in cute, generic costumes.
The worst part of the scene was when Mayuki dressed up Hinako and Chiaki in extremely skimpy outfits that were borderline underwear. Considering that the rest of the costumes featured in the series were fairly family-friendly and cute, some questioned why they bothered putting this scene in.
7 Drugstore In Another World Did Not Take Anxiety Seriously
In the first episode of Drugstore in Another World, one of the clients who came to Reiji for help, Feris, suffered from extreme anxiety that made her unable to sleep, thus worsening her anxiety. This caused a major strain in her loving relationship with her boyfriend Zeral, who begged Reiji to help Feris.
Unfortunately, the way Feris’ anxiety was addressed made her come off as hysterical and used more for humor rather than taking it seriously. Even though Reiji did resolve the problem by giving Feris medicinal tea to help her sleep better at night, thus helping ease her anxiety, many were still disappointed that the show did not take anxiety as seriously as it should be.
6 My Next Life As A Villainess Had Keith Making Unwanted Advances Towards Katarina
It is well-known that the rest of the main cast fight each other over Katarina Claes, but the main two characters who made any moves towards Katarina were Geordo, her fiancé, and Keith, her adoptive brother.
During one scene where Katarina wanted to show off her cute pajamas to Keith, Keith pinned her down on his bed and warned her that if she went into another man’s room dressed the way she was, it was not Katarina’s fault if they did anything towards her. Many fans were alarmed to see such a scene occur, especially for fans that were already uncomfortable with Keith having romantic feelings towards Katarina due to being adoptive siblings.
5 Monster Girl Doctor Had Arahnia Kidnapping Glenn
Monster Girl Doctor had many monster girls falling for Glenn Litbeit, the main protagonist. However, Arahnia took it a step too far, since she kidnapped Glenn and wanted to make him entirely hers.
Thankfully for Glenn and the viewers, Sapphee and Tisalia rescued Glenn from Arahnia’s clutches. The cast later forgave Arahnia for her actions after she turned a new leaf and joined the clinic as one of its staff members. Some fans disagreed with Arahnia being redeemed, however, considering the implications of what she planned to do to Glenn if Sapphee and the others did not save him in time.
4 Rent-A-Girlfriend Had Mami Renting Chizuru
Many fans of Rent-A-Girlfriend despised Mami for trying to lead on the main protagonist while never giving him any space with Chizuru. However, fans thought Mami took things too far when she rented Chizuru for her date and made Chizuru uncomfortable the whole time, including forcing her to sing for her at a karaoke bar.
Not only was this Mami trying to get a dig into Chizuru emotionally, but Kazuya also witnessed this happen just after he finished work for the day. This was a total invasion of Chizuru’s privacy of her job as a rental girlfriend, and an invasion of Kazuya and Chizuru’s general privacy as well.
3 Girlfriend, Girlfriend Had Naoya Confessing He Had Feelings For Rika Despite Her Stalking Him
Girlfriend, Girlfriend included several scenes where Rika, in an attempt to earn Naoya’s affection, literally camped out on his balcony for several days in a row. Just when Naoya, Saki, and Nagisa finally had a chance to get rid of her after trying to plead with her to leave them alone, however, Naoya finally admitted that he developed feelings for Rika based on her persistent efforts.
Viewers were horrified at this, since realistically the group should have gotten Rika arrested for stalking and harassing them much earlier. Other fans thought this scene lent to the idea of stalking as romance and were turned off from Rika despite her more redemptive actions later in the series.
2 I Couldn’t Become A Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided To Get A Job Somehow Included Tentacles
During one scene, Fino and the rest of the staff had to deal with a new product that was shipped to the store. Fino offered to help by using her magic. Unfortunately for Fino, this device had tentacles bursting out of it after she used too much magic, picking her up and assaulting her in ways that terrified every viewer watching at the time. Even though the series already had some fanservice-oriented moments, this particular scene went way too far for many fans. Thankfully for viewers, no similar scenes occurred again in the remaining episodes.
1 Eromanga Sensei Had Sagiri Seeing Her Brother’s Classmate’s Underwear
Though Eromanga Sensei had its fair share of strange moments, considering that Sagiri creates adult-oriented illustrations for Masamune’s light novels, one episode involved Sagiri asking Masamune to bring in a classmate to model for her and show off her underwear.
The scene itself was as sketchy as it sounded to viewers when they saw it, and many were disturbed to see such scenes happening. Even if Sagiri drew adult illustrations, the way they went about with figuring out how to get a model for new illustrations felt far too uncomfortable.
